I had pigs all around me this weekend and they really cut down on my deer sightings. The rut is in full swing and lots of chasing going on and some broken antlers already. The cows messed up one of my hunts and ran off a couple of pigs Saturday morning. I was able to get a nice sow Sunday morning and a boar this morning. I even caught a decent sized rat in our camper.

This morning was really exciting. First as I was walking to my stand I always stop and listen to try and hear if anything is around my feeder. Well I get almost to where I turn to go towards my stand and I hear heavy breathing. I quickly turn on my light and there is a black boar about 30 yards from me. For a few minutes I just watch and wait to see where he is going. He finally gets far enough away that I can make my way past him. After I am past him I shine the light back his direction and he has turned and is headed right for me. I kick it into high gear and get to my ladder stand. After getting everything in place I get back down and spread out some Acorn Rage to help hold the hogs until the feeder goes off (they had been leaving before feeders go off and not returning)

This boar made it a whopping 5 yards from the feeder. He was quartering away and I drilled him in the heart. He spun around looking back towards where he got hit and then started falling over. First time I have ever watched something drop with an arrow. It was awesome!!! I got down and there was blood sprayed about 5 yards from where he was standing when he turned.

And then the rat grin

Looks like you had a pretty good weekend. That smaller pig should eat pretty good.

Slick tricks 100 magnums. They are fixed 4 blade. The 2 sows I have shot went maybe 40 yards and the boar just turned and pretty much fell within 10 seconds and about 5 yards away.

Nice, congrats! I never thought I would miss having hogs but the deer lease I'm on now doesn't have any and frankly I like to rifle grill them.

Thanks guys. One of the most eventful weekends I have had as far as activity and shooting. The deer movement was down even though we are in the rut but with the heat and the amount of hogs I have I wasn't too surprised.

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

Why didn't you pose for a pic with the trophy rat?

Well done! Good story, and thanks for sharing! I'd suggest a Euro for the rat so he doesn't take up much room in the man cave. . . grin

You shoulda posed way behind the rat holding your arms out to its ears to make it look enormous.
