Took time today to check a few rifles from the tree stand today. This year is the year of open sights. New tripod set up. 50 yds to the front of the feeder pen, about 60 to the back of it. 1904 Model 94 in 32 WS ready, 1962 Model 94 in 30-30 ready, Model 94 in 45 LC ready. Just waiting on opening day now. Anybody else kicking it old school this year??? I've got more open sight leverguns that haven't drawn blood than I have tags. Decisions, decisions.

if not for having to confirm headgear
of deer i'd use mostly irons. there's
usually not enough time to look with
a monocular and make a shot too. it's
bring up the rifle, make a decision,
and shoot or don't shoot.

I'm bringing an open sight Marlin 1894c in 357 mag. East Texas pines don't make for long shots. Its really light and fun to shoot!

I'm a levergun guy but all mine are scoped as I find my ability to shoot across or through sights lacking in the legal pre daylight and post sunset periods. I'm starting with my 375 Marlin chambered in 375 Win and up next will be my Marlin 336RC chambered in 32 Win Spl. I also have two early '70s Savage pump guns I recently obtained, both 170Bs, one chambered in 30-30 Win and the other 35 Rem. All are shooting cast bullets.

With the lineup of leverguns I have, I'd never get them all cycled on the hunt if it wasn't for being able to feral hog hunt year round.

Sounds like fun, poisonivie. I too, love the lever guns. I am thinking about trying to kill one with a Ruger Model 96 in 44 Mag.
Adios,
Gary

I'll start with my scoped Marlin 336. Once I have a decent buck on the ground, I'll switch to my open sighted .303 British Enfield just for nostalgia to finish filling up the freezer.

My Dad has an old Enfield that I always wanted to take but it still has battlefield sights on and he won't let me swap them out

Killed my best muley with my pre safety marlin .444 a few years back. Shoots honest 1" groups with a 335gr hard cast bullet at 2250fps!

Shot a hog last year with marlin 45-70. Plan on hunting it some this year, be it hog or deer.

I haven't even got to my Marlins yet. And I've got a Remington model 8 in 35 Rem I need to work in there somewhere. I've only shot it a handful of times

I double checked mine this weekend. Dead on center and ready. This year I'm using my 45-70 and 30-30. Just feel like it's a Marlin lever action year. Love my bolt actions but time to change up a little. And then muzzle loader after general season. Never hunted with a muzzy before. It's a fun gun.
