Folks be sure to check those deer blinds real good. I was killing wasp in mine a week ago Monday when a black widow bit me on the neck. Never felt it until too late. Some of the worst pain I have been through. Took 4 days to get over that one. With all the moisture this year the spiders are bad around our area, NE Abilene- Taylor Co. Glad it wasn't a Recluse.

Ouch. Killed a nest of them this past week. Nasty bugs.

I almost fear them as much as Rattle Snakes because they are smaller and harder to see. Every year I kill around a dozen of them in the stands and storage sheds out that way.

I got tagged on the ribs on my right side....don't know what kind of spider but took a couple of months for it to heal....hurt like a S.O.B. at the lightest touch....

We had a water moccasin swim between me and a buddy during early teal. It was just light enough that we could see something thick and bulky swimming thru the water toward some brush behind where we were sitting. I see a lot of carp and gar in that area and assumed it was a carp. After first light my bud screamed like a little girl that there was a snake right behind us. Sure enough, it was a moccasin, curled up in the brush just above the water. We both flew off those mud seats like spring heeled jacks.
Snakes don't freak me out. I live in a semi-rural area and find big Texas Rat Snakes, garter snakes, racers, etc in my yard or pool. And I've seen quite a few common water snakes in that spot. I don't kill snakes (or varmints....if I don't eat it I don't kill it), but I've never really given much thought about encountering poisonous snakes (and the potential consequences) while sitting still on a mud seat in 3+ feet of water with cool air temperatures. That snake was big, as thick as my forearm. It was within range of biting us and we could have easily be bitten in the back or on the arm. The water temp was warmer than the air which was a bit chilly. If it had been a bit warmer outside and the snake more active, there's a good chance one of us would have been bitten. If it had bitten one of us it would have been a long haul just getting back to the truck.

Just before deer season, every year, I toss an insect bomb in each stand.. takes care of them puppies like no-one's business.
Then, a week or so later, I air them out and add a nice air freshener and we are ready for business;)
Sorry for your bite:(

Wow that sucks. I had a black widow in the corner of my pop up last season and then when I got out there was a brown recluse on my backpack. Needless to say I didn't hunt in that blind again

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

To the OP - sorry to hear. Ouch!
I got nailed by a brown recluse once. Was sleeping and woke up to a stinging sensation near my right elbow. Not fun. Thankfully, my buddy at work took a look and told me to leave work and get my butt to the doctor's office asap. He had seen a similar bite before and thought it was a recluse bite. Doctor confirmed it probably was. Got some shots and some meds. Two days later that bite swelled to almost the size of a tennis ball. After it drained it took a very long time for my skin to heal around the area. I've heard of some people having to get skin grafts because it can damage the skin and tissue so badly. I believe it.

My hard headed mother got bit right in the center of the back by a brown recluse while we were leveling my grandmothers house (under the house)
It swelled pretty good for a solid week, but she refused to seek medical care. I believe it finally popped/drained a few weeks later and a small hole was all that remained.
Some people can fight it off on their own, but I wouldn't recommend it.

reached down in the hole to turn the water back on at our camp two weekends ago and when i pulled my arm out there was a bw right where i'd just had my hand, no idea why it didn't nail me. still in wow that was lucky mode, go to open the barn door and have another in a web right at eye level. Thats about six months worth of sitings for us out there. theres just more of everything now, good and bad, with the moisture over the past couple years.

Black widows are always where the water turns on. Always check first. We have one in ours every time no matter how much I spray.
The spider bite never kills you, its the infection when you don't treat it!

One reason why I don't particularly mind dirt dauber nests as long as they're unobtrusive.
