Twist rate only matters if it's too slow to stabilize the bullet. If you have a 1-10, or 1-11 doesn't mean it will shoot 168s better that 150s. The lighter bullet is not going to over stabilize. I get the BC advantages of heavier bullets at longer range. I'm just saying there is a misconception that you need to use heavy bullets in faster twist barrels. You never know what a particular rifle will prefer until your experiment.

there is a misconception that you need to use heavy bullets in faster twist barrels. It is not a misconception for some cartridges, it is absolutely true.

Sorry, I was talking about the 308 which the thread is about. I've heard a fast twist high velocity 22-250 using supelight varmint rounds will spin the bullet apart mid flight.

I realize it's about .308. Just pointing out that a blanket statement may confuse new hand loaders reading this thread.

JG. Not trying to start anything. Just pointing out my entire post was related to the 308 win which is why I discussed certain twist rates and certain bullet weights. I will not be besmirched by you pulling something out of context! All kidding aside, I know high twist high powder capacity 22 centerfires and light varmint bullets don't mix because what I posted earlier. I don't know of any other exception. Everything I shoot has the powder capacity of a 308 or 30-06 and the only 22 centerfire I shoot is the 223. I don't shoot any ultra high velocity rounds so I don't know of other exceptions. I wasn't trying to be misleading. Good evening to you sir.

Geez.
I know you weren't trying to be misleading, and I did not accuse you of it. Again, you made a broad statement that could be misconstrued from your intention, and I called it incorrect. Simple as that. Had I done the same thing, and you called it incorrect I would agree, and move on. It always amazes me how some people get their feelings hurt over the simplest thing.

I can't believe you thought that last post was serious. It was in jest. It even had "all kidding aside" in it. No hurt feelings at all. I guess my humor doesn't translate well.
