Well guys, what tactics do you use when hunting during the rut? I am hunting the pineywoods in East Texas and there was some sign of the rut coming on. Just want to see any advice or tips!

Very simple. Since the does are what they're after, hunt the feeding areas that does use most often. And remain on the stand for as long as possible, even all day if you can. Funnels and pinch points are another got spot since a doe with a buck in tow might come through at any time.

Also, IMO you have to be careful when using calls in East Texas since mature bucks will often scent check a call first before coming in. If you choose a setup with plenty of cover on your downwind side, you may get detected before ever getting a glimpse of him.

My best luck was 2013 when i had the hottest doe in Sutton County!

Nothing special here, just have gun ready as each doe comes into sight, otherwise you may not get a shot off like 2012 for me. Had 2 bucks trailing her and let my guard down, bruiser ran right in front of me!

Does, does and more does!

My tactics are to keep corn in my feeders year around.
If you can hold the does on your property the bucks will be there once the rut starts because they know where to look.
I'll broadcast feed the long sendero's and sit back and watch the action.
I don't like sitting over a feeder because I just can't see that much, and if a buck is with a doe he will often times lay back in the brush and watch the doe from a distance.
If you have several does feeding on a road or sendero the bucks will be along to check them out.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I like to create mock scrape lines parallel to well used trails away from the feeder. You can probably learn how to do this on YouTube.

You'll improve your chances greatly if you just get out of camp and into a stand.

Redundant but, Find the girls! Whether it's a feeder, food plot, or travel area. And expect the unexpected!

Marc - Trying this more this year. Do you use Wildlife Innovations products? I have their scent drippers. Haven't had much luck so far.

Tinks 69 has always worked for me. I usually wait until after Thanksgiving to use it though. Rattling early in the season has been very productive for me. We have more bucks than doe so competition is fierce. Lots of busted up antlers later in the season.

No.

I drip Tinks 69 in it when I create one and freshen it when hunting it.

I LOVE rattling in the early rut pre-rut period. Very exciting stuff.
