Functions just fine but it's bothering me.

Can't tell much without more info. Reloads? Factory? Gun model?

Pic is a bit blurred ...... is the primer pierced?

Info would help huh.

It's a sarasqueta sidekick sxs 28ga, made in 1960's. Factory win AA shells. Not pierced but very deep and yanks em out.

Did this problem develop over time? I had one break before and the replacement would not fit through the receiver hole. I stuck the firing pin in a drill motor and ran it up against a metal file. Worked. Not sure I'd do it on a "finer" shotgun.

Jorge, without having the gun in hand my best guess is that the firing pin is fatigued or damaged and is piercing the primers. It could also have an enlarged firing pin hole. Is it doing this with both barrels? Sorry, I'm not familiar with that gun and can't offer much more without actually seeing it.

both barrels indent too deep. only one seems to be hang up and deform the primer a bit.

So a little history on the shotgun it was imported by Stoeger and the maker is V.Sarasqueta. I first ran across Sarasqueta at Nagels gun shop in San Antonio, they had a 12ga double but with satin nickel side plates. Then I saw a very ornately engraved Sarasqueta at the fine gun room at a cabelas. It Wasnt a standard or production model. This one is case colored and in my research much rarer than the nickel twin. They are considered a high quality shotgun with some really prizing them. I planned to use it as a quail gun as it has a few areas of wear on the wood so not a safe queen, but now I'm worried if I do use it I'll cause permanent damage. I have 410 inserts and was going to try to see if that made a difference. Anyhow, I kept looking for a 28ga and finally found one in a local pawn shop for a steal for what I've seen them retail for.

Firing pins are too long.

not a smith by any means but have you tried a different type of ammo and get the same result?

I have not. I have 2 cases of AA and 28 is hard to find unless I go to Houston.

might be worth a shot before you go tearing down the gun. academys web sight usually does free shipping on orders over 25$ even on ammo. 2 boxes of 28ga should run over that

Even though an ammunition change MAY fix the problem, there is definitely a problem with the gun that needs attention.

I agree, like I said I'm not a smith, I just like to try the simplest things first when dealing with my own collection. a smiths opinion wouldn't hurt one bit, if you have the $ for one.

TDK is a very fine smith. The fix is fairly simple yet complicated, the pins need to be shortened, but in most high end shotguns they are hardened. Do it wrong and your looking at custom made replacements, you need a well trained smith, too do it right.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype
