Ran my trap line this morning and as I drove up to about 100 yards from my little home made hog trap, I could see I had customers! Started to drive up closer and noticed that 2 of the hogs were not in the trap, but outside of it, staying close to their captive buddies. I pulled out the 7.62 X 39 and put 123 grains of Hornady's best in the biggest one's ear. All hell broke loose and then the other hog that was outside the trap decided to come back and see what the hold up was. Nailed her, too. The 3 in the trap were really going wild, slamming up against the sides and ends of the trap, but I waited until one would calm down for a few seconds and continued to pick them off, one at a time. Only one required a follow-up shot, and I was able to get first blood with the Taurus Millenium I've been playing around with. 9mm HP hand load in the ear put the last one out of its misery. Kept the little black one for a coming family feed; Hunters for the Hungry took 2; the other 2 went to the bone yard.

The trap is so small and narrow that they can't get up enough speed to do serious damage. Of course, since I made the trap out of cow panel and stitched the pieces of panel together with stainless steel hose clamps, it's pretty darned sturdy! It would take a lot of pig to break this ugly little trap down.

Good job!

Just checked my game cams this morning. Had a group of 24 hogs right behind my house last night (400 yds. away). Need to get rid of them. Trying to keep some deer back there right now.

Keep after them, we only have 2.5 million more to go. wink

great job, thanks for sharing, don't have to break the bank to be successful.

Not necessary to break the bank, but I do have to put up with a whole lot of grief from my hunting/shooting buddies when they see some of my "home-mades!" They give me points for creativity, but then take all the points away for appearance/aesthetics/ergonomics and things like that. Tough crowd I run with. . . It took me months of experimentation to get the little trap "right." Getting it to the right length, and then getting the trigger for the trap door so that it would close easily, quickly and would stay closed when the piggies tried to root it up and get out. When I finally started catching hogs in it, I punished all the non-believers by sending them lots and lots of pictures to fill up their email readers. Payback is, truly, a b@tch! Here's a pic with some customers inside:
