Trying to find an ammo that my AR likes. 1 in 9 twist. what are all of y'all using? It doesn't like the Lake City M855 in 62 grain. Tried some cheap stuff in 55 grain and it actually got a little better. My thinking was that it would like the heavier bullets better. Is it a case of consistency that I am facing? Before I go out and buy a bunch of match ammo in different grains I was wondering what you all like.

Mine seems to like the Fiocci 50 gr vmax loads, which is nice, because they are not expensive. For plinking, I buy the American eagle ae223. It's cheap, and although not as accurate as the vmax, accurate enough for plinking. For piggies, SSA by nosler, 64 gr PPT. I bought one box of a whole bunch of different brands in order to narrow it down to these. Wish I had saved my test targets to post, but I didn't.

Before I reloaded we shot a bunch of Black Hills 60 VMax. Wasn't as good as my reloads but I didn't expect it to be. It was 1.25" consistently and occasionally went under MOA.

If you haven't already I'd upgrade the trigger that will make a world of difference then find the right ammo

My gun likes everything I feed it

I shoot Amer Eagle AR 223 because it is cheapest. Shoots both the 55 and 62 well
Barnes vortex 62gr TSX for hunting and that shoots well also

I have 500 rounds of IMI 556 62gr stored away for my prepper stash and they are accurate also

But I am not looking for same hole performance. Its for multiple or quick acquisition shots in my opinion and my gun with a Geisselle trigger likes them all. And yes a nice trigger is a must for accuracy.

60 grain V-Max with 26 grains varget works well in a lot of guns if you reload.

Maybe Today.

In theory a 1-9 twist will like lighter bullets. 55gr or below is the right track. Get a 55gr BT or match bullet and see how it does. I shoot a 53 gr vmax in some of my reloads and the groups surprised me.

All my ARs like Black Hills 52 gr MHP and the PMC 55 gr FMJ lays right on top of them so I don't have to worry about changing zero or "adjusting".
For hog hunting we only use the Barnes 55gr TSX.
The selection works in our Bushmaster, DPMS, Oly, S&W M&P, and custom built ARs.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you put garbage in, you get garbage out. The M855 is the steel penetrator bullet. It was designed to punch through steel, not be a target round. I've never seen an AR shoot these rounds very well. The cheap 55 grain stuff, well, it's cheap for a reason. I'm curious, why would you buy these rounds and expect to get top accuracy from them?

This is the main reason I do not sell 223 ammo. I can load match grade 223/5.56 ammo with the best bullets and powder, and 2 different AR's can have drastic different results in accuracy. I have 2 AR's and both of them are night and day different in what they like, and how they shoot. AR's can be finicky in what they like.
