I am preparing to build a corral trap on our land and we are lucky enough to have a buyer for feral hogs just a few miles away, so we sell them when we can. Does anyone have a proven method/design for loading the hogs from a corral trap to the trailer? It's possible that there may only be one person checking the traps frequently so, the simpler, the better.

I was thinking of the using the figure 6 design for their entrance and setting it up with a trip wire so it wouldn't "close" until a few hogs got in the trap. And then, hopefully, more would follow their "friends" in once it was "closed". But, with that design, I would need to use another exit for their removal.

Will have to build another gate with side and top panels, back stock trailer up and open gate run pigs in. It's not easy, I have had the pigs jump over 6' fence before.

Yeah, that manual hoisting method doesn't work so well when they get much over 100 Lbs.

I think you're gonna need another gate opening to which you can back your trailer. You'll need a ramp for the smaller ones to run up, assuming the buyer will take small pigs.

A separate loading gate would make the most sense, but be aware that if your are running them into a normal trailer (one that doesn't lower to the ground) you will need to either build a ramp or block the area under the rear of the trailer or they will try to go underneath it.

If you use the 'rope them' method (I've done that), just feed the rope through one of the panel squares, pull them up against the panel, secure the rope and then reach through and grab a leg, you can tie their legs using pre-cut lengths of smaller cordage. Once you have all the pigs tied, you can safely enter the trap and remove them. Load them in the trailer (still tied).

I have piece of re-bar that I heated and bent one end into a 'hook', welded a 'T' handle onto the end. I reach into the trailer and pull a tied pig over to the side to untie it (always front legs first). But your trailer has to have panels large enough for you to reach through.

Thanks for the input. Not really looking at roping them though. We have a trailer that we already use when we catch hogs in box traps, so that isn't an issue.

I've planned on putting in a second loading gate, but I'm just concerned about actually getting them to exit that gate when they have that much room to run around in the corral.

Since you said "We have a trailer…" I'm assuming you're not attempting to do this alone. I suggest a trailer gate that's self-closing (a guillotine type gate) that you can trip with a rope from a distance. With a couple of people on the side of the trap opposite the trailer, you can probably herd the hogs into the trap without too much difficulty. If that doesn't work well, perhaps you could build a small fence wall inside the trap next to the trailer loading spot that would help direct hogs running around the outside of the trap into the trailer.
