So with these boots do you wear chaps for snake protection?

I wore Cabella's kangaroo back in my walking days. I still have them.

Yep, I wore the Browning kangaroos for years. Not sure why I quit? Probably because they went out of fashion. Like so many others on here, it's snake boots early or anytime if I'm hunting ridiculously gnarly stuff, then Danners later in the season.

I wear flip flops since I never have to get of the mule except to pour a drink.

Good wool socks are as important as boots. They insulate when your foot sweats and are much less likely to blister than synthetics or cotton. My current goto boot is the Cabela's Meindel. Good support and easy to get on because of the location of the mid lace eyelets. I also have a pair of Cabela's boa prairie boots I like, but they are harder to get on. However, they have very good support--they run .5 size small.

I wear the Danner Prongs and they're great. Before you give up on them, try this:

Get you a high quality pair of wool socks.
Put on your socks and your old Danners.
Run the garden hose all around and in to the boots until you feel that they are totally and completely saturated, inside and out.
Now walk 'em and wear 'em dry; it will take several hours, about the length of time you may spend on a good quail hunt.
Remove the boots and let them stay in a climate controlled environment for a couple of days to wick the last of the moisture out of them very slowly.
Next time you go hunting and want to use those boots, put a light coat of powder on your feet before you slip on those fine wool socks, step into your "wet formed boots," and then hit the fields!

I used to be a very serious, long distance hiker, and this procedure worked for me every time.

Boots is very important for hunting.Which type of boots you should use it's fully depend on weather. If weather is cold then you can use cold weather hunting boots Or If you hunt in the water you should use water prof hunting boots.Different types of brand has different types of boots should pick the best one

My nephew just ordered some Russells. Custom made. They require a lot of measurements of your foot.

We'll see if they're worth it....

21 year old Russell South Forties. I'll be wearing them when I hit the lease this year. Best I ever owned.

I had a pair of Russell Snake boots made and wore them once and sold them. Didn't like them at all. But to each his own.

It's kind of hard to say a pair of boots last 21 years when someone hunts from an ATV. Just saying

Well you're wrong again. Those boots hunted at a walk for the first 15 years of their life. Bought first mule in 2010. They are great boots. Just saying.

I own the exact same model of UTV that Chet owns rigged the same way. Also, I own a pair of Danger Sharptail boots that are 17 years old. Your point about age of boots versus riding a UTV may have had a point several years ago when birds were thin and there was a lot of riding. Not anymore! There are so many birds now that I am off the rig as much as I am on it. When you get birds scattered, the mule is parked. The beauty of the Mule is that it lets you hunt all the way in, but you don't have to hunt back. You just pick up and move to another spot to utilize the wind more efficiently. But there is plenty of walking done chasing singles and such after the flush usually into some pretty gnarly terrain. Comfortable, dependable leather boots are still important.
