Was hoping the front would have blown through already and thing were cooler, but according to cameras deer were moving last night so I thought I would give it a sit. Trying a new spot to give the wind maximal benefit tonight. Straight south wind so I am on the north end of the wheat trying to get the deer to move toward me while in the field already. Nestled into a nice mesquite on the fence line so I actually have some shade. Will keep you posted as to the happenings here....not expecting too much but hoping the 10 jumps the fenc eto my west and comes within range and I can stick him.

Problem is I amber up in a bit of a gulley so I won't see much until it's close. That's ok, means they won't see me until they are too close as well

Trapper Justin and I watched a mature buck breed a doe yesterday morning, she stood and was receptive. I'd say the 18th is pretty early to see that after spending 3 days hunting and seeing mature bucks still together.

First deer spotted, but not on my property. Some really close shotgun shots making things a little noisy. Coyotes went off about 10 minutes ago...probably woke up the deer from their afternoon slumber.

Wow that is early, but you never know with these deer. I have seen all ages of fawns, some older some quite young. So I guess the key is be ready all the time?

Well, I ended up setting up too far away from the crossing tonight. That's the tough thing, these deer cross at different areas every time, have never seen them cross in the same place twice.
Having said that, had a bunch of deer come in, closest got about 80 yards away but as they were grazing and moving a little closer a work truck turned around right in front of the field and made a bunch of noise which turned the deer around and they started going away from me rather than closer. This truck was about 800 yards away but pure wheat field between deer and road was enough to spook them the other way.
After sunset, I saw what I think was the 10 I was going after. I scampered down closer to the crossing and was successful in getting closer but there was a buck out in front of him I didn't see so I had to slow down. The target buck crossed and hurried down to the large herd of deer that was down there. I tried to get closer but with so many deer and an open field, I wasn't successful and they ran off. As expected. It was a Hail Mary, but my time was getting very short and I threw it...they rarely actually connect and this one fell short.
