My friend has been looking for hunting property for the last several months. Many Sunday mornings of waking up at 3:30am to meet brokers at 9am. Well he finally had an offer accepted on piece of property in Gustine, TX (Comanche County) yesterday. Closing is scheduled for late November. This piece of property is fairly open with two decent size draws leading to ponds. There are no blinds or feeders.

Question no.1 What should we do? Just use a pop up blind this season? Put up a box blind ASAP? What about feeders? I hear that when the acorns are plentiful the deer will not hit corn feeders.

#2. How would you handle trying to get things setup after hunting season starts? Ideally he would have found something he liked months ago, but that didn't happen.

I would hand or road feeder corn. Use tripods or pop-ups this first year to learn deer movement then put in permanent stand/feeders.

Very sound advice. ^

If the seller doesn't have an issue with it, I'd ask to be allowed to hang a couple game cameras and leave a few piles of corn prior to closing.

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

A few TC's, hand corn. Pop up blind and tripod. Figure out what you have and disturb as little as possible. up

If it was me...I would set up a feeder and game cam. I wouldn't worry about a stand for now. Just sit up a hundred yards or so away and hunt it. Killed many o animals just sitting next to a tree/bush/big rock. Start checking the camera regularly for activity.

I wouldn't hesitate to hang a 5 gallon feeder in a likely tree, or two. They'll run about 10 days to 2 weeks.

I saw some 5 gallon feeders at Tractor Supply for about $25.00. They come with everything but a 6v battery (and the corn).

What he said. elmer

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

Ask current landowner if can go ahead and hang TC and feeders and have access; if so get them up and sit and watch. A good chair and shootin stick has killed many deer; no stand required.

How many acres?

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

Why late November? My concern would be the landowner, his family and friends hunting the property for the first three weeks of the general season.

If it's fairly open, I'd put some feed out and then sit back in my truck with a thermos of coffee and park where you can observe.
If you notice deer movement in a certain area, then look for places to set up tripods and popups.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Because the property is in the process of being bought. Expected closing is early Thanksgiving weekend. The current land owner is not hunting the property. He is a cattle guy.
