I've been working on a new design for a feeder with some other guys and this is what we've come up with. 500 lb capacity, all internal motor and wiring, and 5' to the top of the barrel. The bottom discs are 26" diameter. Even that low to the ground, we're getting a 45' diameter throw with the 12 volt unit.

That is looking quite interesting. What is the distance from the bottom of barrel to the ground?

Must be nice to have a shop like that, make anything you want. Looks very interesting. Looks like about 6' to the top rim. Might be a struggle to lift 50# bag.

5' to the top, 15"-18" from ground to bottom plate. I'm going to try one this winter as a directional as well

I like it. Simple and should be real reliable and varmint resistant. Good job thinking out of the box.

Did you put some sort of housing over the motor? I would be afraid the corn dust would clog up your motor, short it out, etc....

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

Neat idea.

Have you had any problem with corn will building up inside between the bottom plates?

Maybe replace solid bottom metal with expanded metal. I thought about the same thing.

I have the same design on my Alamo Feeder. The 12v motor is sealed and not vented in any way, so no worries about corn dust. There is always a few pieces of corn left between the plates as the motor slows down before stopping but it gets kicked out at the next feeding. No build up whatsoever on mine.

Man I totally forgot about this thread! I have had zero problems with mine out back, and I've got ten out in Sterling City that have had no problems other than a stuck timer that was warranties through the manufacturer. I am looking to get a batch of them going in the next couple of months.

Are you selling these? If so, what is the price and availability?

Fast forward 4 months and the feeders are still going strong, but we have a change or two to make before we post them up this spring. Hoping to get what I believe are some possible weak points tightened up within the next few weeks. I will update once we have it!
