Well, I just mentioned it but figured to make a post because... well, I am bored to death and it is exciting stuff :P My father used to train Setters, English (we called them King Llewellins from Alfred King in Enola Arkansas) and Red (not Irish) Setters. Now, if you never had a mix of these, it was quite the treat. Jeb, the Red Setter (red hair?.. heh) was a far off hunter. Where Jeb went.. there were birds. If you did not follow him, he did not care.. well, mostly.. lol.. but you did not second-guess ol Jeb. Then his buddy, Stonewall.. (catching the theme?)... Stonewall could smell a bird a mile away and even through a french brothel. We did not lose a bird when he was with us. We dropped a bird one time and could not locate it and went to the truck where he was stil in the box and brought him out and by golly he found it in under 10 minutes.. heh Anyway, those were MY two favorites.. There were others, Pepper, Sam... But, I have not hunted birds in a lot of years, ever since going in the Navy. Mr. King died a few years ago and his wife breeds the remaining dogs very few times a year. I had to have one, so last Friday 1 of two litters was born, 4 males...3 females. Not sure on colors yet as it is early. She has another litter due any day now. All I know is I have paid in full and by Thanksgiving or Dec 10th, one of those females is coming with me and it ain't gonna be Mrs. King Now, to really make this awesome, I wonder if I can come up with a really good Civil War name for a female dog :P Okay, enough rambling.. I'll post pistures as soon as I get any. heh R
Hunting is easy..it's getting permission from your wife that is tough.

I wouldn't name her Mary Todd Lincoln, that woman was crazy as a loon There's a Llewellyn owners group on Face Book. I own a lowly ES but I was welcomed to join. I named him Jack, little did I know he would take the last name of Azz
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Lol! all good names Barny, yes, I am one of the Admins on that facebook page, if we are talking about the one called Llewellin Setter Owners Group.. I started it when I got booted from another group for calling them "King Llewellins". I had no idea there was a rift when it came to the Kings. My father got his dogs from Alfred for years and that was all I knew them as. Good times for sure.. heh Also, an English Setter is just a different breed, nothing wrong with them in the slightest. My dad's first dog was an ES. He hunted alongside all sorts of Brits and Reds and Germans. R

I'd guess Scarlett O'Hara would be pretty high on a list..... Along with Miss Daisy and Blanche. I also really like Jazz (might be short for Jasmine) for a female dog.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.
