And it appears that things are slower this season than recent previous ones based simply on less harvest kills posted so far. Do we attribute it to more range cover and groceries with all the rains this year, higher than normal temperatures so far this Fall, less hunters in field this season or a bit of all of these?

Good year.... Lots of green but seeing plenty of deer. I would suspect everyone is holding out. After first freeze it should be great...

For me it's a combination of good range conditions and temps. Seeing plenty of deer, just. It the ones I want to shoot. So far my options have been between 2 illegal bucks, one legal buck I wasn't sure about, and a doe with twins. My son has had a couple of young legal spikes but chose not
To shoot. Hoping the cooler weather this next weekend will get the deer moving better.

Seeing some game on camera moving late to feeders. High temp, acorns, and that full moon effecting us right now.

I agree; of all the years I have been hunting out at my place, this is by far the fewest number of bucks spotted (if I spot them at all). Plenty of does and fawns, but no good bucks to speak of so far. I would definitely have to blame it on all the rain we had...the sagebrush on my property has gotten so thick and high this year it was a miracle I could even find the two does I shot with my crossbow back during the first week of the season. So now that I have meat in the freezer, my attention turns to the antlered ones. However, I'm being realistic...sat all afternoon in the blind yesterday in 90+ degree temps sweating my tail off, and all that came out was two does and a fawn (and they didn't even come out until after sunset). But with the weather conditions being as they are, I kind of didn't expect to see much anyway. As of this morning, I'm back in the blind, and I have already seen a small 6-point and two small does. The Weather Channel is indicating that rain is supposed to move thru my area on Thursday, and the high will drop from 92 to 78 by Saturday. This weekend is looking like a washout, but next weekend should be fantastic...just be patient.

I have seen at least 4-5 mature bucks so far that I could have shot. Just holding out for the right one to show up. Temp was 94 yesterday afternoon but a bit of a breeze. The last 3 mornings were foggy with variable winds making hunting difficult. Today it was foggy but the breeze was steady and I had buck walk by me at 5 yards. Any of the other days he would have smelled me. Full moon and heat had them moving much later, all night and very early. This morning was the latest I have deer in front me in over a week now.

My place in Texas and Oklahoma are a bit slower or more nocturnal than normal. Kansas was good hunting as I had 4 BH sucks this year I could have killed, but I don't go up there for 3.5 year olds.

Not the best weather and the deer have plenty to eat so they aren't hitting the corn as hard as last year it seems.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Unfortunately I haven't been out yet much this year however I can tell you at my place in the Trinity river bottom in Anderson county, our deer dont even think about eating corn when there are this many acorns on the ground. We have more than last year and last year was already a bumper year.
Last year we had about 6 cameras up. 5 on feeders. 1 on the base of the Oak tree my tree stand is in, with no feeder but a huge amount of acorns. In a week we would get maybe 1-3 deer at a feeder if any. The big Oak tree would see 5-6 bucks and a dozen or so does a day.

We are a little slower this year so far. We have some many oak trees the deer are only eating acorns right now. Good luck finding that one magic oak tree to hunt out of 1,000. The wheat fields just popped so hopefully we can hunt them soon. Hardly getting any deer at the corn feeders right now. Definitely hunting a little different this year.

I've got a couple of those "magic oak trees" on our place. The deer are there but the wind has to be just right since they come from every direction to get to them, and they always approach from down wind, but the wind doesn't want to cooperate lately. hammer

Kinda glad I killed mine here by the house so early. Acorns have started falling and deer have turned off feeders for the most part. I love to hunt but I sure have been getting a lot of things done around here with the extra time. Headed to Missouri in a couple weeks tho so I am looking forward to that.

I think fewer people are posting pictures. I know the number of trail camera pics and age/score type posts is half of what it has been in years past. Kind of a bummer, I miss seeing all the deer pics.
