If you want to have your gun sighted in at 0 at 100 yds. But you only have a 20 yard range to sight in at. Where should be the bullet hole on the 20 yd.target be?
I know this is a strange question but I have got this issue! Thanks in advance!!

I suspect you know that's a really poor idea. Now that that's out of the way, use the Nikon Spot-on website. It will calculate target distance and zero distance.

Aim dead center and adjust the point of impact to be 1 1 /2 inches below your point of aim and that would get you close at 100 but id never trust that without checking POI at 100 before shooting at an animal.

You didn't say what caliber but with a 308 shooting Rem Corelokt 150's, Spot On shows .68" low at 25 is on at 100. There are a few other variable at play but this is ballpark.

this right here^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ in big orange letters! ! !
don't go hunting and shoot at a game animal without proper sight in! !
if you're not able to properly sight in, don't go at all until you can.

i should add that you need to do the final zero,
to your own eye, not a buddy or gunsmith or someone else

FWIW, most all centerfire cartridges will be 1/2" to 3/4" low at 25 yards when sighted in at 100 yards. But that is of little use when the range gets longer, and the maladjustment will be greatly magnified at 200,300, and beyond.

Twice it has been mentioned to assure your adjustments at 100 yards before going afield. That said .... making adjustments at 25 yards is a waste of time except to initially get the gun on paper.

I've got a range you're welcome to come use but we're a long way apart.

I shoot pistols at an indoor range near Fort Worth. Every year around dear season I see people come in, set up a rest, and zero their hunting rifles at the 25 yard range.

Now, I don't know if they put any animals on the ground. All I know is they leave with their rifles zero'd at 25 yards.
