I may have an opportunity to jump on some property sw of Mason.. very unique situation that I'll share if things work out. I haven't veiwed the property yet except on google earth.. plenty of water, change in elevation, cover, big neighbors, and well off the beaten path.
I've personally never hunted in this part of the state but driven through.. give me some pros, cons , expectations of animal quality and types (exotics?). Price per acre you pay or per hunter.. Interesting facts about the area, restaurants.. really anything you feel to share.
I spent some time yesterday searching the www, but honestly was shocked to not find a great deal of info like some of the surrounding areas.. I know we have some long time hunters around this area, so let's hear it.

Mason is a small town. Not much there, but you'll find what you need...gas, grocery store, feed store, etc. That area of the state has high deer populations. There's also high hunter numbers. Lots of small acreage farms and ranches and a few larger. Consequently, it can be a challenge to find a mature buck. Most bucks you'll see will be youngsters. There are some hidden gems out there. The area has the potential to grow some big deer if they're allowed to grow and age.
Neat topography and geology around there with all the granite hills, creeks and springs. I grew up hunting just east of Mason and then later, south of Mason. I would think that you could reasonably expect mature bucks to go 120 to 130.

I'd get on it. Alot of big deer have already been killed in mason county with bows. Several 160s just of what I know of. Lots of deer and hogs. Expect 120s 130s but real chances of alot bigger.

I hunted a place at Loyal Valley for a couple years. Great place, with lots of wildlife. Bucks weren't exceptional but a fun place. There's spring fed creek running through and there was an old Indian camp along it's banks. Used to find all sorts of artifacts. Lots of turkey too.

For those hunting the area now or in the past, what would you say an avg price per acre runs for low fence in that area..?

Steverino, I live in Mason and have lived here for 19 years. Have a small place just north of Mason, near another little town, Voca, and it shares the same topography as the area in and around Mason. PM me with any questions you may have.

I hunted in Mason for a few years. Nice numbers, 20 different bucks at one of my feeders at the same time. So it was a lot of fun. If you wanted a decent buck you had to hunt when everyone else wasn't hunting. I got my best buck to date in Mason. I also saw a few bucks there that were much bigger than the one below but once the shooting started you wouldn't see them again until the next year.
