I'll try to be brief-
I was involved in a hunting accident last week. My shotgun blew up (not my fault) and I lost my left (non-dominant hand) thumb.
I'm thinking about other ways to enjoy hunting.
I seem to recall that the early bow season is for 'regular' (not cross) bows. However, I think that crossbows ARE allowed if the hunter cannot use a 'regular' bow.
Can anyone offer any insight?
I've never shot a bow of any kind.
Thanks- Rob

In Texas? Crossbows allowed by anyone during bow season. Sorry for your accident, and glad you still plan to enjoy hunting.

Collin, Dallas, Grayson and Rockwall counties crossbows are allowed only during the General Season. If you are not hunting those 4 then crossbows are legal in the others for archery season without an upper limb disability that prevents from drawing a vertical bow.

Sorry about the thumb, pray it all heals quickly.

Crossbows are not legal (unless you have documented disability as described above) during bow season in Collin, Grayson and Dallas counties I believe. I do not know for sure if there are any other counties that do not allow crossbows to be used during regular bow season. Crossbows are legal in any of the above counties during rifle season, even though those counties do not allow rifles to be used.

It is all spelled out in the tpwd website and can be found under your specific county.
