I have a 700 ADL 7mm and I'm wanting to put a new stock on it because I've noticed the stock touches the barrel almost the entire length of the forearm...
I know you guys have several opinions, could you post up some of your rifles, I'd like to see how y'all do it.
As a side note, this gun is going out west next year for speed goats and Mule Deer, so weight is of some concern but isn't a major factor.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

For an inexpensive route but good a Boyd's with pillars and a bedding job has served me very well

If the stock touching the barrel is the only problem, You can probably save quite a few bucks by having a gunsmith take care of it - or by floating the barrel yourself after watching a few YouTube videos on the subject. There are number of videos on this subject at YouTube. - Here is one that has the basic information, so you can decide whether you would care to do it yourself. Free-Floating a Rifle Barrel This video also has a few important tips: Free-Float II All of this of course depends upon how you feel about the stock that you have. - Whether you would really rather have something different or not. If you would like something different, there are some great suggestions in the posts above.
Kind regards, charlesb

When I replace the factory synthetic stock on my M700 with a Bell & Carlson Medalist, my average group size was cut in half. Obviously, YMMV, but it was a good move for me.
