Didn't realize clicking on a link was such a chore!
It is a "long range range locator." You type in your zip code and it displays the ranges, (800+ yards, right now) that are somewhat close to you. The guy who's put the site up wants to expand it to include ranges that only go out to 300 yards and is requesting shooters' input to build up his data base.
The Rifle Range Locator Tool
The response to this new tool has been great. I wanted to send out a follow up email seeing how many of your have emailed us asking questions, wanting to get involved, and making suggestions. Just to clarify a couple of things:
We will be going forward with this tool, because of the overwhelming positive response.
The image you see here, is not what the final tool looks like. It will actually be more detailed, this was a prototype to get a feel for interest.
All rifle ranges 300 yards or more are welcome to sign up at this time, however we will initially only be entering ranges that are 800 yards or more.
This is a global tool. Any range in any country that fits the criteria can make it on the list!
This tool is not live yet, and is still a couple months left in development. We must first accomplish a couple of things.
Range Owners and Directors need to sign up. To do so, send us an email, and I will direct them on where to get that done.
Once they are signed up, and we have enough users as well as development is far enough along, they will receive some information to fill out. Once a year, they will have re-verify this information so that you, the shooter, know what to expect before heading out.
Then we must input the information and finalize the tool, including beta testing.
If enough interests and time permits, we will expand this tool with an option for 300-600 yard facilities. And change the current format to 700+ Yard facilities.
Rifle Ranges must sign up themselves. Their are a lot of online and forums lists that have outdated, and bad information. Some of those ranges no longer exist. So we encouraging you to spread the word in order to prevent these ranges from being listed.
Projected Completion Time Frame - 60 to 90 Days.
We are as excited as you are to get this rolling! But we want to do it correctly. You can help us out though! Contact your local range and let them know about it! Make sure they are involved so they will be added!
You can also send in suggestions for what you would like to see in the information. Here are the current topics that you, the user, have suggested we have on each range:
Name, Location, Email, Website, Phone Number, Hours, Membership Required, Qualification Required to utilize long range lanes, Caliber Restrictions, Speed Limit (MV), Range Enrollment Fee, Range Use Fee, Distances Available, Steel Targets? Paper Targets? Electronic Targets? Is your range open for general use public/members, or only for events/competition days?
If you would like to add or subtract from this data as a user please let us know. As this is a new tool, we are very interested in feedback, which so far has been very positive. Share this with your favorite range and get them on the map!
Please remember, to get on this list, your range must sign up and then complete a form to be sent out at a later date. No ranges will be automatically listed, or added without some key information. All rifle ranges 300 yards or more are welcome to sign up at this time. To get on to the mailing list to receive that form, they need to contact me via email and request it.
