I just bought a 458 socom AR and now I need advice on sights/scope. I don't know why I bought it. But it sure will be fun to shoot. Also have 100 rounds of 350gr ammo from black butterfly. If you have one what do you have on top and ammo you using.

Buy a quality scope and don't skimp on bargain brands. That's a lot of recoil and a well built scope is a must.

I have a Tromix 8" barrel on my build. Running 500gr Outlaw state bullets at 1000 fps using Lil'gun. Bullets aren't cheap but they hit hard and expand at sub velocity. Don't skimp on ring or scopes, I have a vortex viper on this one.

What's the effective range for the caliber? I can't imagine anything more than 4x being needed. I'm hoping to get a 458 and plan to run without magnification.

Shot next to a guy shooting a 458 socom at the range last week. Had a muzzle brake on it, ridiculously loud

I still haven't gotten to the range with mine yet. I put a Vortex Copperhead on mine with 6 hole rings. The Copperhead is supposed to be built for magnum recoil so hopefully it handles the 458. Have a Bowers 50 suppressor that goes on the end. I've been around enough loud guns. Shot a 50 Beo (one shot) with a muzzle break that made my ear ring for 6 months. Shot that same gun with a suppressor a year later and it was much nicer. Effective range should be 200 yards, maybe 250. I bought my ammo from Custom Reloads of Dallas.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.
