I'm loading 125 gr in 308 Win with IMR 4895. I have several manuals but the charge weight varies a lot. Nosler 6 says 41.5 to max 45.5. Hodgdon 2016 annual says 48.0 to max 51.8C max. Lee second addition and Hornady 9th I4895 not listed for 125 gr.
What's your manual say?

51.8 sounds extremely hot to me.
Sierra shows 46.2 as max load.
Hodgdon's online data shows 48.0 as max.
Nosler online doesn't show any data for 125 grain loads.
Sure you're reading your manual correctly?
I'd start at about 43 or so and work the load up from there.

48.0 sounds much more reasonable. FWIW, here is a link to Sierra data if you ever need it ..... http://www.6mmbr.citymaker.com/f/Sierra308Win.pdf

The manuals are general guidelines. Each barrel and combination of brass, bullet, powder, and primer will interact differently. Even different lots of powder will change load data and a max load.

Yup. OP, if you want to gain a deeper understanding of things, pick a powder, pick a loading data source, and start with a light bullet. Note Max charge, then go to a heavier bullet, note Max charge, carry on until you run out of published data for the heaviest of bullets listed. You'll see a decrease in Max charge as you increase in bullet weight. That will give you a guideline as to what is a safe Max and what is way too light or way too heavy Switch to another loading data source and go again.
