Doc's Hot Links in Gilmer, that's where I'd go, it's worth the drive. Not sure what Gilmer has as far as shopping goes though.

Jefferson is quite a drive from Rockwall. The OP indicated a 1.5 hour drive.

Will be this Thursday. I would rather suck on shotgun than do that. Why not go to the State Fair during the week?

I had looked up Jefferson but wanted something a tad closer. Went to fair last week with kids, not doing that again. Yeah its not the ideal trip but I'll be gone alot during hunting season so if I have to endure one day it I will take it.

Go to the square in Sulphur Springs. We have glass restrooms where you can see out but people cant see in Also have a tetra recharging station or something, I dunno what thats all about. Several places to eat and they serve beer Sounds like your gonna need lots of beer to get through the antiquing, quilt shops, and old book store type thing.
It ain't easy being me.

There is a lot of events going on in East TX the next couple weekends. Hawkins, Van, Gilmore. Look up events in East TX in October. Gladewater is the antique capital of East TX. So they sat!

If you take the RR ride round trip you'll depart and return to Palestine. We've been here since May, and found a number of places to eat that I've taken out of towners to and gotten the amazed I never knew that kinda place was here startled expression so often I've come to expect it.
Find the hollow on Crawford St called Old Town Palestine just west of the Court House & north of the Kroger that has several good time places with music, great food and antique stores. The May flood wiped out the Hollow, but everything is now back open and revamped mo bettah in some cases.
Find a unique Italian pizza & pasta place called Switch for a unexpected experience. 1/2 a block north of the Loop on Royalle - 1 block east of Sycamore at the light & the Loop, just west of the retail shopping & hotel strip. Lots of unusal craft beer choices that changes weekly too. Took my youngest in there, among others from Dallas , who has 20+ years in High End Food in North Dallas, he sez Switch is a total surprise and well worth the trip anytime... and the food reminds him of the SF Bay Area in California in quality at half the price.
Downtown there's a German bakery that's been in the same location since 1908 called Eilenbergers that serves breakfact and plate lunches that is a must stop for the Sweet Goods if nothing else. On John St 4 -5 doors north of Crawford, and across the street from City Hall's parking area.
There's a high end resturant on the top floor of the restored 1890's4 story hotel downtown too, just south of the City Hall...I'm saving that for our 49th anniversary this coming December.
Who knew Palestine could offer something besides the usual East Texas fare!?!? surprise surprise...what a pleasant surprise.
There is also a B&B Winery out north of town ummm 3-4 miles north of the Loop on Link St, north of the Davey Dogwood Park that has to be seen in the Spring to be believed, and the Country Club. It gets some quiet notice but we haven't been there yet, so I won't comment except to mention that there is such an experince here too. Ron

It's worth the longer drive to Jefferson just to look for Sasquatch. Those east Texas woods are squatchy, squatchy as hell.

Gilmer has some good eats and a few shops. Gladewater, about 20 minutes south, is supposedly the antique capital of east tx...
