Do any of you own one of these? If so, have you been happy with it? I shot one this weekend and was really impressed with how it ran and felt in my hand.

PSA and several other places routinely run it at $199, makes it hard to pass up. Taurus has a lot of negative press, including this gun and particularly it's direct predecessor; it's hard to know what to believe. As a plinking gun it's probably fun but as an LTC weapon, are you going to possibly gamble your life on saving a few bucks?

If you like it, buy one and run it hard, see how it holds up. If it holds up, you're set, if not, trade it off and you won't be out too much money.

If it says Taurus on it, there's no way I will rely on it to protect me or my family. Use it for a range gun or maybe a paper weight, but not for CCW or something that I need to depend on. No way. It's cheap for a reason.

Interesting feedback. I've spent a couple of hours looking at reviews on YouTube and I haven't found anyone saying anything bad about this particular piece except for the trigger. I already have a couple of reliable carry hand guns, so I'm not thinking about using it, yet, as a carry piece. And I know about Taurus' reputation, but my son and I both run Judges and shoot them a lot and have yet to have any failure of any kind on them. Could the company have improved their pistols over the last few years?

I don't know, and honestly haven't cared to pay any attention to know. There's 2 things certain in life for me- you will NOT find me in a Wal-Mart and you will NOT see a Taurus revolver in my hands.

So, Chad, have you ever personally owned and operated a Taurus? Sounds like you have. I'd sure like to know the nature of the failures you have experienced. I'm thinking seriously of buying one of the Milleniums and just see if I can break it! I've got a ton of 9mm reloads that I've built up over the years, so I should be able to try all weights and loadings, as well as projectile types. I'd kinda like know what to expect based on your experience.

I had one of the first gen Taurus Milleniums....the linkage between the trigger and firing pin broke making it unusable. They fixed it under warranty and I sold it. I won't buy another.

Yes. I currently own a Taurus 357 Mag that had to repaired twice. The main issue was the forcing cone was messed up. 38 Special did fine, but when you fired full power 357 mag ammo, the forcing cone would shred bullet jacket material and blow it back at you. I had a piece of bullet fragment strike my ear lob when firing. It cut it pretty bad, and I bled like a stuck pig for over an hour. I never knew an ear lob could bleed like that.

Second, is my brother's Taurus PT 145 in 45 ACP. The trigger would go limp and non-functional after a few firings. When it would go limp, you had to clear the pistol, and re work the slide several times to get it to reset the trigger. The working of the slide may need 1-2 cycles to fix it, or it may need 20 cycles to fix it. Either way, once the trigger went limp, your pistol was a paper weight at that point. It got bad enough that it was happening every other round. The pistol was sent back twice for the same problem. After the second time, my brother shot it and it seemed to work ok. But his truck got stolen with the pistol in the truck not long after that. My brother laughed that they may have gotten a dud of a pistol.

I'll never own another Taurus again.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I just bought one and will start putting it through Pistol Hell starting on Thursday and will post a report of my findings here. I've got a Glock 26 that I can compare it to. Sounds like, even if it performs well, there's a few of you who will never touch a Taurus again. And based on the experiences you report, it's perfectly understandable.

I had one of the first gen PTs (wife unit's CC gun) and sent it back on the recall. No problems with it, just wanted it checked out. They sent me the gen 2 version and so far it's run 100% through +/-200 rounds. While I am not sold on it completely yet, she shoots it well and is comfortable with it, just gotta run more ammo down it.

I am a Glock disciple, but she just cannot for love nor money shoot one.

Hand guns are so "individual" that the only way I've ever been able to decide on one is to actually hold it in my grubby little hands and see how it feels and comes to point. And, of course, if it's a PD piece, you just gotta have 100% confidence that when you pull that trigger it will go "BANG!" A few bad experiences can shake your confidence, and if or when you find yourself in a SHTF situation the lack of confidence just might cost you dearly. The 3 hand guns that I have declared PD Ready for me are ones that I've put at least 400 rounds through without a single failure to feed or fire; and I practice with them regularly. I hope I never have to use them, but if I do, and fail, it will be not be because the equipment was not ready and able, it will be because the operator wasn't up to the task.

Between me and my dad, we have 4 Taurus pistols and one revolver. None of them have ever jammed or given us any real trouble. They typically get a bad name from people who have never used them. I owned a Glock 17 that gave me more trouble than any of my Taurus guns. I always laugh at people who dog Taurus. If you want to spend your $ on something way more expensive, go ahead. But it's not because Taurus is unreliable.

I have only seen 1 Glock have issues. In the MANY years I've been shooting IDPA and tactical matches, most people run a Glock. All with great reliability. The number of Taurus pistols that have had issues are in the many times I have personally seen. I have seen a whole lot more Glock pistols used with only 1 Glock have issues to the many Taurus pistols I have seen have problems. I own probably 7-9 Glocks, and each one has ran perfect. If you look at those odds, it's pretty easy to make a determination with some common sense on where the reliability is. I'm sure there are some Taurus pistols that run like a sewing machine. Hands down, Taurus does not have that great of reliability, but you get what you pay for. A Taurus is a low end budget pistol, and that is what you get. There are better reliability options as a whole.

Yep, to each their own. I have 4 Taurus guns that all run like sewing machines and had one glock with issues that got sold. I hear people dog Taurus and I just don't get it. My brother had a 709 and a PT100 several years ago, and both of those were great too. Between my dad and I, we have two Taurus 24/7 .40 S&W, one 24/7 Compact 9mm, and a model 85 revolver.

I will add another disclaimer though: people that buy Taurus guns usually don't shoot a ton. I think if you want to put 10,000 rounds or less down a pistol, the Taurus will probably do you just fine. My bedside gun and my truck gun are both Taurus, and I've got a few thousand rounds on each. But if you're buying a gun for competition shooting and you're going to put tens of thousands of rounds through it, get a Glock. That's what they're built for. Taurus is built to go through a normal amount of rounds for a normal, non-competition shooter. Glock is built to last through anything you can possibly throw at it.

BTDT with Taurus over the years. Learned my lesson and generally stay away from them now. Have personally had 10+ in probably 25 years ranging from PT-92's and -96's to a couple 24/7's and recently one of their PT1911's I took on partial trade. All with the exception of 2 (both were -92's) had some sort of issue with general operation. I'll stick with my Glocks, H&K's and Springfield 1911's. YMMV.

I picked up a brand-new Tracker .22 WMR at my LGS, tried to [censored] the hammer, and the cylinder jammed. Guy opened it, closed it, no luck. Took the gunsmith nearly 20 minutes to correct it. That's not after 10,000 rounds and I've handled maybe three Taurus in my life. So laugh away, but due to first hand experience I'll never own one.

Ive got one of the Taurus Millenum G2 in 40. Would not be a carry gun for me. I don't care for the trigger. But for the Academy price to good a deal to pass up for just another practice shooter.
