How old do you put these two rams? How old would you personally believe them to be shooters?
These two were on our place when we purchased it and were told they are mouflons, if you believe otherwise please let me know what they are.

They look like young Armenian Mouflons in their summer coats. I would not consider them shooters.

I agree with Tony, they are probably 2-3 years old. Under good feeding and watering conditions with some protein help you should get 3"+ per year in horn growth, give them about 2 more years and they should be a good harvest.

They camp out at one of the protein feeders pretty regularly. Thanks for the information.

Well if you wanted to stay Armenian I would buy Armenian ewe(s). Not a huge desire out there for Armenian sheep.

A red sheep is a Transcaspian Urial x Armenian Mouflon. So if you want Red sheep (which seem to have a higher demand than Armenian Sheep) that's an option....maybe your best one. But Transcaspian ewes can be pricy.

If you want to stay with Armenians you obviously want Armenian ewes.

Your other option is to just let them grow out and sell the hunts.

You have to decide what you want. Do you want to raise sheep on your ranch is the first question. If the answer to that is "yes," then do you want to be raising Armenians or red sheep (which appears to be your two obvious options)...ust hybrids with no pedigree per say... or do you want to shoot these two and start with another sheep breed like European Mouflons or some other marketable sheep species. Think though your long term plan and then decide.

BTW, since you do not know the pedigree of these two rams you may not want to use them as your initial breeding stock if you are serious about raising trophy class red sheep or Armenians. They might have good genetics and they may not. You'd be taking a big risk to use them as your initial breeders (without knowing the pedigree) if you are serious about breeding trophy sheep. If this is all for fun and just to put more "targets' on your ranch with no real concern for the quality of the animals....then your options are limitless as sheep will breed with any other sheep....so you could use any type of sheep species ewes and just have a herd of hybrids.

I believe we will opt to let them grow and let someone shoot them. Very good information though and I appreciate it.
