Hello,

I recently got stationed here at NAS Corpus Christi for flight school. I am originally from Arizona, where I used to dove hunt every fall, and duck hunt every winter.

After driving around the area (down to Kingsville) I am having a difficult time finding where people go to dove hunt. I understand that Texas is largely different from AZ. Back home, the idea of a hunting lease is foreign as most all of land in AZ is public land.

Is hunting on a lease the only option here? If not, where would I start looking for public land to dove hunt? I'm not expecting anyone to tell me where their prime hunting spots are, but I am looking for a good place to start.

When duck season comes around shortly, I plan on participating in that as well. Do most people around here set up on the bay in boats, or somewhere else in blinds?

Thank you much!

Hey Joey, welcome to the forum. Good luck finding public dove spots. I'm a Yankee, and when I moved down here from MN, it took me a while to wrap my mind around the fact that there is pretty much 0 good hunting on public land down here, especially for dove. You can find some decent public water for ducks though, and the coast is downright good. Hang around the site and come duck season, I'll take you out some time. I hunt Corpus a ton. Just bring waders and any decoys that aren't mallards or woodies
