I drew a doe pronghorn tag near Price, Utah. It's not a Henry Mountains Mule Deer, but I put in more work for this animal than most any other, in terms of physical labor at least. Actually this is my first big game animal outside of Texas (other than my Canadian moose last year). Missed two shots early, but found this one yesterday afternoon. They were very, very skittish. Spotted this group from about a mile or so and was able to use the terrain to sneak up to 435 yds of this one. Bipod and my pack as a rest and the Creedmoor did the work. Getting her back to the truck was a learning experience. First animal I've had to quarter and pack out. My back and hips feel like I ran a marathon while doing yoga. Fun trip so far, easy fishing the rest of the trip.

Used this trip as a gear test for a backcountry Coues deer hunt I have next month, so far I figured out I need a warmer sleeping bag. Turns out I don't sleep as hot as I thought.

Pronghorn is excellent table fare, if the meat is well cared for. Congrats on a fun hunt. My wife had a buck pronghorn tag in 2014, Utah Bookcliffs.

Have a friend that has gone several years to Wyoming with his two sons. They hunt on their own and really enjoy it. They tag out most years.

Sounds like you had a great hunt with meat to show for it, congrats!

Pronghorn are definitely a good place to start if you are wanting to start out hunting "out west".

I dropped her off at a game processor in that area to have a bunch of Jerky made, then steaks and grind the rest. I know that it won't taste quite as good as my buck from the Texas Panhandle that lived a very hard life on irrigated wheat fields and CRP (best game animal I have had so far actually). The problem with Utah is that they have a very limited number of pronghorn buck tags, so it may take me 10 years to pull a buck tag in any of the units there. But for a $10 application every year, it's as easy as remembering to put in every year.
