I'll give most snakes a pass on most days unless they are poisonous AND in high traffic areas. Even more so since I learned copperhead venom is used in breast cancer research. However, This guy was at the gate and in the wrong place at the wrong time. He deserved the 'Goodyear Stomp' that he got.

He was 30" easy. Biggest and prettiest copperhead I've ever seen. Killed him in the same spot I killed a rattler on Sunday night.

I am looking for someone good enough to keep him from losing any pigment. His colors were really vibrant. Looking for suggestions from the masses.

He is in the freezer right now...at my parents...coiled up...on a shelf...at eye level. I warned them, but I know they are going to forget/not think about it. Me so funny!yingyang

Just called them. They said do it yourself as their salting process would not be good for it. He made it seem pretty simple. Might as well give it a shot.

I have preserved some for use on rifle sling and belts...tend to think the 50/50 mix of alcohol (I used denatured alcohol) and pure vegetable glycerin give some of the better results after fleshing the skin. I used salt one time and the guy that worked with it after said I shouldn't ever do that again. Maybe be a personal preference, but the first way seemed to be the best.

I've heard good results from this method, too:

If I can do it anybody can. I used the 50/50 denatured alcohol and glycerin. Can give you a bottle if needed. Then all you need is a small paint brush, box of pins and a stout piece of cardboard to stretch him on.

Looks like I have a project this weekend; good thing I am not trying to kill another buck until rifle season starts.
