You, or rather he, can use a crossbow now. They can be used in the archery only season.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

Not in Collin, Dallas or Grayson Counties. Those you have to wait until the General Season ot Youth weekend for it to hunt with a crossbow.

Huh. Never hunted in those counties. How does a county supersede state law on those things?

From what I understand they can do that because they have never had a firearms season. I've contacted the game wardens and It took them an hour and a half to come up with how to interpret the rules on this. I asked them if it was so hard for them to determine what it should be how were we supposed to know. They said they were going to try to have it more clarified by next year

Not superseding state law, it is state law.

Quote:
An archery endorsement is required to hunt deer during the Archery-Only Open Season. An archery endorsement is required to hunt deer at any time in Collin, Dallas, Grayson and Rockwall counties, including during the general open season (Nov. 5, 2016 - Jan.1, 2017).

They put that in the means and methods section of the annual booklet, I think it should also be in those counties season dates section. Thought it once was.

Cstand you are correct I forgot Rockwall county was also this way.

So what your telling me is that you would pass that buck up because you are a young hunter right?

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Hope your son gets him, but that is one hell of a deer for anyone much less a ten year old.
you haven't said what poundage bow and type of arrow broadhead your son is shooting.
If he can control the shakes on a deer like that he is lot better than me, and I have been bow hunting for over 50 years. Forrest

My kids watch too much hunting TV and read too many hunting magazines. They think deer like that are behind every bush!

My son is using a mission craze 2 by Mathews. It is set at 48lbs. Shooting slick trick broad head 100grain. The pop up I set up for hime will be a shot of 10 to 15 yards. 12 yards to the feed pile. Talked to my bow shop and they said the arrow should be a pass through at that distance.

I wonder how many folks out there have pics of that same deer with plans to hang it over their mantle?
