You know the people who are dragging deer stands and feeders on opening weekend? Well looks like I am going to be one of them. I have spent the last 15 years in amazement as I see trailer after trailer of equipment being hauled opening weekend. Typically I am completely done by August trimming trees, mowing lanes, adjusting setups, ect... I spend deer season hunting not fixing things the way I want them.

Fortunately I found a great lease just minutes from the house. 1400 acres of pure deer country that hasn't been hunted in years. I asked the gentleman back in June if he had any interest in leasing it and basically he laughed me off. Well two weeks ago he showed up at my office wanting to take me to look at it. Took us a little while to work out the details but we spent this past weekend and yesterday driving, walking, ect.. trying to figure out where to put everything. It is going to be late but I am super excited to lease the property.

Sounds like it could be a gem if you can hold onto it for awhile

Yeah, Ive always wondered the stories of those people who wait until opening weekend to set up a blind and feeder.

Save yourself the work.

All you need on a place like you described the first year is a coffee can to hand corn, a few TCs, a pop up and a tri- pod to figure out what you have and where to place sets for next year.

Yep...kill something nice and then worry about disturbing the area.

I do agree and have spent many of days with fewer amenities than I currently enjoy while deer hunting. However, I am just not as mad at the deer as I used to be and would rather hunt in comfort.

Keeping it long term is my largest concern.

I will be in the same boat Leonardo, came across a lease just browsing online. Made a call went and looked over the property and got a deal worked out with the landowners. Now my friends and I are trying to figure out how much we want to set up this late in the game. I'm excited though, hoping to post some pics of the game we come across.

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

I've found with age and time I'm not as timely as I used to be. I was up till 2am setting up blinds a few days ago. Just been busy. It all works out cause these days I'm better at picking locations for feeders and stands. I work less but more efficient. The TC pics show good things. The blinds are flawless for the winds they were chosen for.
That being said with work and family I won't sit for another few weeks. Best of luck. Take your time and try to understand how the deer move out there before setting up.
A good way to start on a new property is to set stands on perimeters and never drive inside if you can help it. Keep it quite in there

I have often wondered about it too. Hunting in the hill country rut occurred early in the season for us. We hunt deep south texas now, rut is late, we have bucks in bachelor groups for the first couple weeks of the season still in summer patern. They don't rut till late December and usually have another rut around tail end of Jan through first part of February. Texas is big stuff happens at different times, but I still agree I like to have my stuff set up in advance.

Was in the same boat this season. Long story short lost our lease because the land owner put it up for sale. Property sale finalized about a month ago and new land owner said we were highly recommended by the previous owner. With all the rain the place got on the weekends it was last weekend before we were able to get everything set back up where it had been for 5 years. It was a pain rushing when I'm normally done moving around by March or so but better late then never.

Lease is ready for opening day. Spent July & August building fences for feeders as the hogs became a problem. Relocated blinds and mowed shooting lanes. Elect/water will be turned on by 3 Nov. Spent last Saturday cleaning up the Travel Trailer and Outhouse. Hopefully cool weather will arrive for Rifle Opening Day.. Game cams captured some pic of nice bucks, but no bachelor groups so far. In past they have arrived in Aug/Sep. By Nov usually get pics of 1 or 2 buck at feeders but no groups. Plenty of does with fawns.

I just sit under a large cedar tree that has limbs nearly touching the ground over looking a live oak and post oak flat. Break off some cedar and crush it up, helps eliminate my scent
