I was headed to Del Rio the other day, and as I drove through Hondo I saw a deer check station. This is the first time I've seen one. What are they for? Do you have to stop if you have a deer? I have no clue what the rules are for deer stations. Any info is appreciated

I think I have heard that some other states have them, but I can't recall where I heard that.

I've been looking for the rules, but have yet to find any. It does seem to be for cwd.

Medina County has lots of deer breeders and high-fenced hunting operations. CWD was found in one of the breeder's pens and on an adjoining ranch where a three year old hunter harvested buck tested positive. That pasture was in Uvalde Co. One other buck from the same Medina Co. breeder showed up in a pen on a Lavaca county ranch.
The Medina Co. check stations are for hunter harvested deer, free range or otherwise, from ranches not already required to submit samples for testing. It's voluntary and free to have your deer tested. The technicians will want the brain stem and adnoids from your deer.
