For those folks that put in for your National Forest doe permits, check your results. They have drawn. I won one for the SHNF!

They have also drawn for E-poscard archery deer. I didn't get one of those.

I drew out for the Moore Plantation WMA. Should be interesting to say the least.

Back before the electronic drawings, they would have separate drawings for holders of the Annual Public Hunting Permit. They are listed in the front of the APH book. You would individually write your application on a postcard and mail it to the local WMA office. Now, most of the postcard apps are done on-line. There are a few of the "traditional post card hunts" left though.
You don't accrue points and you have to buy the APH permit if drawn.

Yeah, I got drawn too. I have hunted and worked around the forest. Big place and no deer. Don't bother going.

Not only is there no deer, you will likely end up with chiggers on your privates. eek

I was selected for SHNF!! This is the first year I've done any hunting in over 20 years and so for only shot a few doves. Any tips on what's allowed would be greatly appreciated.

Read up on antler restrictions in the Annual or the TPWD website and study them very carefully. With your hunting license, an Annual Public Hunting Permit, and the antlerless deer permit, you can take a doe or a buck that conforms to the antler restrictions.

Before you hunt, please read up on the rules to hunt in the SHNF. You could save yourself an expensive ticket or worse. I've included a FAQ link below. Good luck!

Thats no joke. I went last weekend only to come home and find three deer ticks. One on my junk, one inner thigh, one on my knee. I had boots and long pants too. Now I get to take antibiotics for ten days as a precaution agains lyme disease

My wifes cousin got them last year on a hunt on the Laguna Atascosa and he was forced to sleep in the garage because they were scared of the newborn getting them.

I will be in the SAM with my doe permit this year but probably not until December. My business slows down the last 2 weeks of December so that is typically when I go hit it hard. Might use the new 6.8 this year. Cant wait!

Got picked as well as well as my nephew. It's been years since I went out there muzzleloader hunting but there was a surprisingly high number of deer. I plan on trying it some weekend in late December and see what happens.

Sulfer powder would help with ticks. It can be a bad year with the rain and all.
