Guys,
Does anyone here know if it's legal to carry my rifle with me when I bowhunt? I'd like to have a rifle for pigs if they show up and don't come into bow range but I don't want to violate any game laws.
Hope all is well for everyone!

I just called the Parks And Wildlife, you can carry a firearm during Archery season as long as the firearm NOT used to harvest a deer. Pigs, exotics, non game animals.

Seems like this comes up annually about this time. Last year the consensus was that you could only carry a pistol while bow hunting if you had your CHL.

Not sure about whether the firearm must be a pistol versus long gun but I don't see why there would be a difference since the operative qualification from TPWD is that you don't use the firearm to harvest a deer. Also, any CHL/LTC requirement would only apply on public land since you don't have to have CHL/LTC to carry while hunting on private land.

I'd get that statement from my county game warden first because other wardens might see it as hunting with a rifle during archery season.

The firearm prohibition during archery season was changed in 2014. Fifth paragraph about 2/3 of the way down. So yes, you can have a firearm with you when bow hunting during archery only season, just don't use it on a deer or turkey. TPWD News Release
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

TPWD doesn't want anyone missing out on a chance to take out some swine.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.
