Speed goats tend to be longer shot's so I would advise sticks. We have had more rain than usual this year, so a bipod might put you to low because of the grass. Also watch out for rattlers, lots of them this year. Other than that have fun and make sure your knife is sharp. High success rate on speed goats in Nuevo Mexico. rifle

Look up close as well, a lot of time people are looking long distances and miss the ones that are sixty yards in front of them over a little mound. You'll find them either way, be picky

How long did it take you to draw the NM tag?

Any interest in sharing where you got a LO tag or costs associated?

Good luck!

Can't say who or exactly how much but the LO sold me the hunt for the same price he sell most of his tags to an outfitter, which happens to be half of the outfitter charges to clients.

Now, I don't get a guide, I've never been to the ranch (70k acres), I have to cook clean and fend for my self, I have to drag a UTV up there and pay for lodging. All in all it probably a wash but we will see if I score a nice trophy

I am guessing you are hunting SE New Mexico. If you have patience you should be a able to score a dandy buck. I have taken several in the high 70's and one right at 80. Remember mass and prongs is what really adds to the score, length is not everything on antelope. Good luck.

i would just use your truck as you cant drive off the road anyway while you have a tag. Be selective like said earlier. They are hard to judge after the first 50 you look at. Look for the height of the cutters the Higher the better .that helped me.

When starting a stalk on a distant buck (I mean way out there) you can close a lot of distance with the "antelope walk" bend over with your arms dangling like two front legs, walk angling toward the buck. I learned this in WY and have used the technique in NM and CO. It may seem a bit silly but it works. Vertical is danger! Keep watching for does and other bucks that you may have not seen at first. Good luck.

First off holy snikies these thing are impossible to hunt...... Almost. My first stalk on a group of 13 was a disaster and ended up being a exercise in futility. I figured some stuff out and made a super 1000yrd stalk on a group of trophy does and a fantom buck.... Waste of about an hour. Finally we spotted two bucks in dry watering hole at only 400 yrds. I belly crawled for about a 150yrds and chipped off a nice easy 250yrd shot. 300wsm ended up being waaaaaay over kill. But what the heck go big or go home. I didn't realize the hide was extremely fragile and when i grabbed a hand full to fill him over I pulled out a chuck of hair the the size of Texas fortunately it was a far back on his back. I have no clue on score but I'm super happy w him. Pics are on cam so it will be a few days and I will post them up.

Yep, they can frustrate you. Antelope have always been one of my favorite hunts I think antelope are what Bodington had in mind when he coined the "4 Ps" concept: "Preparation, Practise, Patience and Persistence". Very nice buck, congratulations.
