One of the guys that lives on the place I dove hunt at says that white wing dove are on a 50 year cycle, stating that in the next 10-15 years we won't see any of these birds. They will all stay in Mexico and south america.

I pick and choose what to believe that comes out of his mouth, this is one I have to throw up the bs flag on.
Tried to reference it on Google and came up with nothing, so do y'all know anything about what he's saying or would you throw up the bs flag to?

Seems like if that was such a thing, there would be publications on it, you might want to check what he is drinking or smoking.

They are all over the city of Freeport. Never saw many of them until the past couple of years. Hope they stay.

Well, I don't live in Freeport so I don't have to deal with them crapping on my truck. If they stick around and multiply, that's gonna make the wingshooting better in my area.

Maybe he got his directions mixed up, and meant to say Oklahoma is where they're all headed, lol. Cause I'm sure seeing more and more of them up this way-->North Texas...Red River Valley. And there use to not be ANY?

BS...
the big freezes of 83 and 89 did in a lot of the grapefruit orchards in the Valley...
the whitewings moved north looking for nesting areas...
they nest in flocks and the citrus groves were prime habitat...
now they've become urban birds and subdivisions are their new habitat...
think about it....
do you see many whitewings more than 3-4 miles from a population area?
my family has lived on this piece of dirt since 1877.. never any WW's
they are town birds...
5 miles north of me is the biggest whitewing shoot ever... Hondo

I think the white wing flyaway is moving more towards the east. I've got a buddy of mine that grew up in Kosse and never shot white wings growing up. He's had some jam up places and about 5 years ago, one of his fields were solid white wings.

My high school geology teacher swore up and down and 'taught' us that because of all the development on south padres island that it was eroding and in 20 years the beaches and the land would be gone and under water. Well it's been like exactly 20 years and it turns out he was wrong.

My Uncle has a place between Brenham and Navasota, we've shot the carp out of some White Wings there, he said they used to never see them.

I'll have to agree with kweber's post!

It would be more believable if he was talking about quail.... Sounds like he's one of kind.

Seems to me that white wings are expanding their range, much like the Eurasian or "collared" dove.
I would think that it is unlikely that the trend would end or reverse any time soon.

What I've read about white wings, and its true where I live, is that they are an urban bird and don't venture too far out of cities. Sucks to have no birds at my lease, but a flock of forty in my back yard.

I have hunted white wings near towns for this very reason.
They would fly out to the fields, morning and evening and roost in town.

All the old timers tell me the white wings started heading north after the big freezes in the Rio Grande valley citrus orchards in the early 80's. At the time that was a huge roosting area. I've seen pics of guys who hunted in that valley in the late 70's & it was thick like Argentina.

A buddy has a high fence place in lampasas. The whitening hunting there is phenomenal. The birds roost in town and fly out every morning and back every evening
