Preferably in Waco...I'm about 20 miles north of Waco.

Anyone know of any in this area? I have a h&r rifle popping open when I shoot it.

Not in Waco but in College Station there is a good gunsmith. Barry Burdett at Burdett and Son knows his stuff and won't rip you off.

For repairs or minor mods, drop by Unique Guns on Wooded Acres in Waco. They have a smith they work with that does a good job on stuff like that.

Last year I had bought an H&R from Bud's and the first time I pulled the trigger it broke. Marlin had me send it to a gunsmith in Dallas that does their warranty work in the central US:

McClelland Gun Shop
1533 Centerville
Dallas, TX 75228

I don't have their phone number but it should be easy enough to get it. You might be able to send them the receiver in a small Priority Mail box if they will work on it.

There is a fellow that is known for his H&R Trigger work, you might contact him and see what his turn time is this time of year: http://www.dandtcustomgunworks.websitetoolbox.com/post/hr-nef-7814263

I think Leo Bradshaw still does some work, He used to own Cogdells in Waco if he can't do it he would be the one to tell you who can.

Does Hill Country Rifles only build new ones, or do they also repair rifles?

you do know the latch and shelf are supposed
to be dry right ?
popping open suggests that there is oil or
grease on the latch and shelf.

check the FAQS page under H&R rifles at graybeard outdoors forum

Yes that's the first step I took. The edge under the barrel that snaps and mates with the receiver isn't flat... thats what looks to be the issue I just don't know how to fix it. If doesn't look complicated but I don't want to start taking metal off and then make it not fit somewhere else.

Unique guns doesn't repair anymore and according to Fun Guns, there isn't one in Waco anywhere. I'd be willing to pay and ship to an individual who knows how to fix it.
