Yesterday my lab, Dixie, couldn't get up. She's been getting worse and worse over the last few years. She was completely down in her hindquarters. As she was 15 years old, we figured it was finally time to let her go. It was a good run, girl. I'll see you again someday.

Tough tough thing to do. I did it back in March after 12 years and it was horrible.

Did she have arteritis?

Sorry for your loss. It's always tough to let one go.

Hate hearing that, poisonivie. Condolences to you and yours. It never ceases to amaze me the power a good pet can have on our lives in such a short time.

There are some folks who think they are just dogs, never have felt that way. Part of the family, when they're gone they're missed like family. Safe travel Dixie girl

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

A bad day indeed. You had to stop the suffering. 'Sounds like she had some of the best owners a dog could have.

I went through this with one of my most loyal dogs. Paid for someone to come to our house and do it humanely. People were great, my dog was comfortable and seemed happy, but it broke me down. Losing a dog is like losing a close friend/family member. My condolences

I see this weekly, if not daily. You have to know that what you had done was "FOR" her and not "TO" her. The fact that she lived long enough to need to be put down is a testimony that she was well taken care of throughout her life. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks guy. She has(had?) a 12 year old "brother" of dubious heritage that has never known life without his big sister. He's kinda lost now. For the most part, he's becoming a hermit except at feeding times. I have two other 4 yr old dogs but the two "sets" never really crossed over that well. Just kinda odd how things work out.
