Can anyone help me out with the general cost to re-barrel a Tikka?
I have one chambered in .243, thinking about changing it to 6.5 Creedmoor.
Thanks!

Do you plan to use the existing stock and bottom metal?

Generally $250-$350, but that's just a chamber and not including cost of the barrel....threading for brake or suppressor would more too.

I wish Beretta would import the Creedmoor. Tikkas are fine rifles. We own 2 and they are as good as it comes out of the box.

I wanted a Tikka Lite stainless in 260. You could get one in Australia, but not here (at that time). I was whining about it on the forum and Chad said he'd have one made up for me, and he did. Best decision he ever made for me. Absolutely super accuracy. So...get him to do it for you.

Do you plan to use the existing stock and bottom metal? I would want a heavy spotter barrel. If I need a new stock I would get a Boyd's or other cheaper options. I wasn't planning on changing the bottom metal if I don't have to.

There nothing that says u have to change out the bottom metal. In fact, going to an aics style may means u will have to spend $300-450. As a person who doesn't have the time to shoot all the time, myself include, it s a lot of cost for little return when a factory fila comes with a usable mag system. Notice I said usable and not good.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

If you find a CTR in 6.5 creedmoor id go that route but my understanding is that it was a limited batch that didnt take long to sell out. I see them on Europtic but id call to see if they are actually in stock. Has they been available when I had my 6.5 built I would have bought the Tikka and called it a day.

I've never been a proponent of selling a rifle just to replace it ... especially if it is a good shooter. But as an owner of both the 243 and the 6.5CM, it is my experience that the 6.5 can do anything the 243 does and do it better. You can load it down with 120 grain bullets and it is a speedster with extremely light recoil, and it handles 140 grain loads which the 243 cannot do. My CM has become my go-to rifle for most anything I hunt except when I want to use the AR. My son still used the 243 a lot, but I seldom pick mine up anymore. FWIW.

Why would you make another? I do, it's in my signature. I love the rifle, love the round, but I am thinking of selling It off and getting a Tikka 6.5. I love my rifle but I don't shoot half as much as I used to. If I'm using just 1 rifle for hunting I'm going to get a lighter barrel.

I agree, the 6.5 can do everything and more over the .243. That's why I'm either selling it upgrading my .243. My 6.5 shoots great, I took it out to Firemans's class and had a blast ringing steel. I need to decide if it's worth getting another rifle. Maybe I just have the itch to get a new gun!

Sounds to me like you are looking for an excuse for a new gun, which is fine. Your 243 will do fine hunting it's just not many people want a shorter barrel.
I think a rebarrel will run 650-850 depending on who does it and what barrel they use. If you add more options, like fluting, price goes up more. Some people make pre chambered aftermarket barrels that you can instal with a set of go/no go gauges
I may get a new hunting gun but will get a 308 adl and add a magpul stock to it.

The only thing that sucks about the thinner barrels is the heat up faster so if you go to the range they can open up fast. The carbon barrels may be better but will drive price up

The experts know more than me but I say keep the .243. It's a great round that can handle anything in Tx. and will easily walk out to 800 (at JG's) with good loads. I'm pushing 87 gr. VLD's from Chad, if you've got a 1-8 twist you can go to the 105's or better and reach out even farther. Spend the money on making it better! P_102
