Son's made it out to our place. Week cell phone coverage but my youngest scout was able to send me this pic. I had a picture of him last year that was super fuzzy in a rain storm but you could see those spikes clearly. I'm no expert but he definitively isn't a yearling or a two year old. He's on our hit list, if I could get out there this Saturday he could possibly be the first deer I took with a stick and string. However he isn't a dummy and we only have now like half a dozen shots of him in the last two years. What say you THF?

Sausage ingredients. This is no yearling. I'm guessing 4 to 5 age based on muscle build and head profile but he doesn't have the shoulder hump. Could be the way he is posture though.

He was just born in November and got a late start....... 5 yrs ago. He looks mature in that pic. He just needs another year....on top of the 5 he has had so far.

I've got one like that. He disappears every season. Sooner or later though...

Needs another year

I gave a young looking spike a pass last year. A young buck 18-24 months his junior now has the same boy size as that spike. Genetics,is what it is. This season that spike is headed to the freezer.

Got another picture of this guy. He's not a duece but a quad.

I always give the young spikes a pass, and it's not that hard to tell the difference between a young spike, and an old one that won't ever be more than what it is.
The young spikes still have milk on their lips.
