What do you guys say? They seem pointless on low recoil guns. Do they help on magnums when you have a big, heavy scope?

Which particular rifle / bases are you referring to?

Which particular rifle / bases are you referring to? No particular rifle. Bases such as Seekins, Nightforce, etc. Just curious at what point, if any, does a recoil lug on base become necessary? Magnums, Ultra Magnums, 50 cal?

Don't see the need on a rimfire but on any centerfire I want them. Better safe than sorry.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

I have them on every Rem 700, 5 seekins bases. For one, consistency as well all wear seeking rings. My rim fire does not because seekins does not make a base for a CZ 455. And my AW has a Spuhr mount which has a lug

Any recoil lug on the base will help hold it in place from moving during firing. I like them. But, I have had some bases that had the recoil lugs, and caused the screw holes to be out of center, so one or both of the measurements were off. I could not get the base to work because of the recoil lugs. But when they work, I like them.

That kind of what I figured. They seem highly unnecessary on anything that is low recoil. But on a hard recoiling gun or magnum I can see them being useful.
