The past few years I've been hunting with my crossbow exclusively. The crossbow was new and exciting and offered a change of pace. Which unfortunately left my poor bow alone at home. This year or this weekend I'm leaning towards taking my bow out for opening weekend. Does anyone else have this dilemma? I've actually thought should I carry both xbow and bow to my stand and decide at the time which I will use? It's these things that keep me up at night... or maybe it's just this week.

Good luck to all and be safe this weekend!

No sir. I feel like a crossbow is just a short range gun. Although I own one I keep it for non archer guests and youth. I shoot my bows weekly. No dilemma here. But I understand that others see things differently. I think if it gets you out there, you enjoy it a day it's legal then get out there and do it. It's about you. Not the rest of us. Go hunt.

I'll never put down my compound as long as I'm physically able, but I'm happy to see a few of my buddies buy XBows after seeing them shoot their compounds up

I bought a crossbow about 5 yrs ago now. I had not shot or hunted with my compound in about 10 yrs. I finally got my crossbow out of the box and put it together 2 yrs ago to go after one particular buck that year. I hunted that buck almost everyday for a month. About 2 weeks in I bought a PSE bow package from Cabelas to start to practice with it. I did not feel comfortable shooting a deer with it since it was my bow with a peep sight, D loop and newer style release. So I finally killed that buck with my crossbow on the 30 day of hunting him. I am going to hunt with my PSE this year to try to take a buck that I have targeted if I can. For me I will not shoot a deer over 25 yards with either my bow or crossbow(my crossbow is loud and I can tell if a deer will jump the string on it before I shoot)

I first started serious archery hunting about 45 years ago with a Ben Pearson recurve bow which I still have. After about 20 years I started hunting with a compound, and I got into 3D archery competition and shot year around for about 16 years and I did pretty good shooting with a local club.
I then had some job related shoulder issues, sold my compound bow and went with a Horton crossbow for hunting.
I'm older and crippled up but I've come full circle and will hunt with my traditional recurve once again.
It's kind of put the excitement back into my game.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
