I would like to get some comments on a Remington 700 ADL. I think it is an ADL because it is loaded from the top - no floor plate. The caliber is .270 with wood stock. Looks to be in pretty good condition. Just don't know much about Remingtons. Please comment good or bad.

Been hunting with one for 18 years now. Absolutely nothing wrong with it for a hunting rifle.

Good rifle with lots of opportunities for upgrade. Some of them are needed, namely an aftermarket trigger. I have two 700's left in the safe with the necessary upgrades performed, all the others are gone and have been replaced with something else.
They make an outstanding base for a build.

The Remington 700 ADL was my first deer rifle. I now consider it my utility gun due to its accuracy and durability in tough weather. It's as accurate as any of the more expensive rifles that I own.
You can buy more attractive rifles for sure, but you'll be hard pressed to find one that beats the 700 for "out of the box" accuracy.

A great rifle, I prefer the BDL but there is nothing wrong with this rifle. How many $ for it?

I currently have 3 in the safe - 2 are 25-06's and 1 a 30-06. All are older models. All have had their triggers swapped out and the stocks bedded. All are pin-point accurate. One of the 25-06's is a first year production model and is an ADL. Consistent groups around .5-.75", smooth (enough) action and is one of my go-to rifles. GREAT action to build a 'custom' rifle on. Depending upon when it was made, you could have a very nice rifle with little that needs to be done to it.

That's personal opinion and very debatable. I wouldn't trade a Tikka for a sack full of them.

I have a plain-jane syn-stock .243 ADL, ~2004, with a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 on it. It was my sister's gun but I bought it for her and mounted the scope. It's definitely a shooter and hasn't had a trigger or anything else done to it. My nieces (15 & 20) both killed their first deer with it this past season. I would not hesitate to own another.

Own 3 700's of varying ages. Most of my immediate and extended family shoots rem 700's. To my knowledge none have changed the triggers, had any work done to them, or any problems. I love mine to death and I think people who give them a bad rash are making mountains out of mole hills.

??? The M700 was introduced in '62. The 25/06 in '69.

We made a trade today. I had a Sig that he wanted for his wife. Talked to a friend of mine and he said the .270 has quite a recoil. He did not like the kick that the .270 has, but other than that it is a good rifle.

I'm Remington 700 fan too. That's all I have or ever owned. I just bought 700 ADL in 308 and I love it. I agree with you're friend 270 has a sharp recoil but nothing that's to harsh to handle.
270 and 130 gr bullets go together like peanut butter and jelly but if recoil is a concern you can shoot 120 gr or managed recoil rounds.
I think you'll be pleased with the trade.

Recoil is a subjective thing. IMO, a 270 has very moderate recoil. But that's just my opinion. Hope you enjoy the new rifle!

If you are recoil sensitive, a limbsaver recoil pad will be your best friend. They are pre-fit to a large array of rifles, and do not require a gunsmith or any training to properly fit to a rifle. I am not recoil sensitive, but I put one on my 45/70, because with my handloads, I was recoil sensitive on that rifle.

I used to have a 700 ADL with a walnut stock in .270 Win. (my son has it now) that was and still is an excellent shooter. I currently have a Winchester Mod. 70 and a Browning X Bolt, both with walnut stocks and both in .270 Win. (love that round). Of those three, the ADL has the sharpest perceived recoil, then the X Bolt and lastly the Mod. 70 having the least perceived recoil. The X Bolt has the InFlex pad (which imo is very good for a factory pad), and the Mod. 70 just seems to be a bit heavier than the other 2, thus imo aiding in reducing felt recoil. Go get a good Limbsaver recoil pad, either grind-to-fit or slip-on. It'll help a lot. Enjoy your new rifle.

Great gun great cal. Like others have said, not bad recoil but that depends on the shooter. Recoil pads are cheep and a threaded barrel with a muzzle break can be had for a little over a hundred bucks. I'll second the comment about the 270 and 130gr bullets!

Check to make sure it is not one of the recalled Remington's. You can go to their web page. There been some serious issues with the trigger and safety. I know two people that have had accidental discharges because of them. There was even a documentary about. Do a google search or utube search. https://youtu.be/oS_GDpZM3akJust make sure you have done your research and have a safe gun
I once drank muddy water out of a hoof print and was dang glad to get it.

Good suggestion about the recall. I had forgotten about that issue.

Remington Managed Recoil .270 ammo produces roughly the same recoil as a .243. Very effective out to 150 yards.

thorn4570, Thanks for the recall notice. I did not know about this. Went to Remington site and entered the serial number to be checked. Site said "Your rifle is not subject to the recall". I really appreciate the info. Could have been a disaster.
