They thump for sure, but I think with the wood stock will help with some of it. Won't be near as bad as the 257weatherby and 7mag I'm shooting tomorrow.

I've got a couple of BDLs, 300mag and .223, and both are absolutely accurate...of course they are from the early to mid 80s. I think the older ones were built better than they are today.

My hunting rifle is wooden ADL .30-06 with Timney installed last year.

I prefer blind magazine. I did replace plastic follower with a stainless one from Brownells plus the new thin Timney. Timney changed everything. Don't know why I didn't do that years ago.

I have hunted extensively with the Rem. 700 since 1967. I've had a dozen or so and still have 4 of them. One in 7mm Mag. another in .338 Win. Mag. a .270 and a .222 Rem. The first two are highly modified the last 2 are pretty much stock. The .222 is an ADL and is the most accurate rifle I have ever seen without a bull barrel. The .270 will also shoot well, with 5 shot groups often under 1/2". My children have bought 700s in the last 20 years and they are junk. If you can find a very old one it might be a keeper. I'm sure the Custom shop can still supply a good rifle but the box store cheaper rifles are hit and miss. It's a real shame what ownership turnover has done to Rem.

I heard Remington was recalling millions of 700s for trigger issues.

The recall states there was "excess bonding agent" applied to the mechanism of a specific model of triggers manufactured during a specific time period.

Anyone trying to make that big a deal out of it has too much time on their hands. They are all good rifles.

Story from the fire station:

James: JG, I've got a rifle problem

Me: What's that?

James: the thing fired when I closed the bolt,and I am 100% sure my finger was not on the trigger

Me: It's a Remington 700, I bet

James: How'd you know?

Me: whole country knows (then explained)

He said no one has ever adjusted the trigger on the rifle, and he has owned it since it came out of the box.

And that begins with a story...

I know of 3 people who have had a rem fire when they didn't pull the trigger and didn't want it to go off. 2 the triggers were worked on. The third was my dads and a build up of old grease in the firing pin spring would cause it to no release when the trigger was pull and it would let go at some undetermined point.

I own several have tested them again and again and again and the safeties all work as designed. I don't worry about it.

I have had two 700s for many years. The only incident I had was from old grease in the firing pin spring like just mentioned. This combined with temps well below freezing when I pulled the trigger on a hunt, the rifle did not fire. I pulled the gun off my shoulder to my lap I was about to open the bolt, and at that moment the firing pin released and the gun fired . Sidebar, The bullet accidentally hit the doe I was aiming at seconds earlier and killed it in its tracks. The trigger on that rifle had never been worked on and was not the cause of the late discharge. Both have had trigger adjustments since, and never had problem.

Point being, no matter the back story, no other rifle trigger I can think of has the same amount of problems, and accidental discharges. I do own one Rem 700 action. But it is wearing a Timney trigger. Better feel, and no where near the amount of stories of accidental discharges.
