I have an opportunity to buy one at what I believe to be a good price for the gun. Wanted to know what everyone thinks is a fair price for an sx1 in 90%+ condition. Also is there anyway to tell the age of them, and are there any things I should look for before I possibly buy it?

I own 4 of them. Yep .... FOUR. They are one of the most awesome shotguns ever made. They are heavy, made out of steel, and will run a long time with minimal maintenance. Worth? Probably 300 or so in 90% condition depending on what variant it is. The skeet and trap models are a bit more desirable. There are some things to watch for. The bolt buffer must be examined and replaced if necessary. The buffers are a common problem. Parts are available if you know how to find them. I'd strongly suggest that you venture over to www.shotgunworld.com and browse the Winchester forum there. There are a lot of SX-1 fans there and they can point you in the right direction.

Thanks creedmoor. I should also add that I can get a rem 1100 or a skb Ithaca xl900 for a couple hundred less. If what creedmoor says is true about the price of an sx1, then I should probably look harder at the other 2.

The SX1 has a cult following. I would love to own one.

Quality examples of the SX-1 will fetch $400 or so. And I'm talking NICE shotguns. Any more than that is too much unless it is a skeet or trap model. And even then $500 is TOP dollar. Sounds like they have it priced far over that. If so .... I'd have to pass. A nicer 1100 should fetch $400 - $500. Hope that helps.

What are they asking????

Didnt notice if it said trap or skeet, it did have the ribbed barrel. Id say it was in 95% condition. They were asking $600.

Unless the gun is perfect ..... and I mean perfect, that's too much. If it is an extremely nice gun, and you really want it, you might could go $500. But that's still a bit much IMO.
