What would you pick and why? Shot a few wilsons and a nighthawk. As well as several kimber, sig, Remington, ruger and some others. Can tell a difference in the better stuff for sure. Now I'd kinda like to own one.

I like the Ed Browns, but way too much $ for me. Heck I had a hard time spending $1k on a 1911 so I cant imagine $3k

Found plenty under $3k so will not go over that. Plenty of good options too just don't know what I want.

You don't need to spend $3k to get a great 1911.

Unless you're just wanting a show piece, I don't see the need.

I have a Colt Gold Cup in .38 Super that is as accurate as anything on the market off the shelf. And it never fails to function. Kimber is also a great weapon if that intrigues you.

I assure you, not as cheap as I'd like. I may have miscalculated. May be closer to 1/4 of the year... makes no difference to the boss lady though.

I've owned a kimber, sig, rock island and shot several others. And I'll probably go shoot some others before I decide but from what I've learned so far, the higher end stuff is better quality and more accurate. Yes I could put a better barrel in a kimber or something but tolerances are tighter. It will be a shooter not a safe queen.

I like STI but I'm partial because they are Texas made.

I have several you can shoot if you want to come to Decatur some time.

May take you up on that. STI is another option I'm considering.

Check out the 1911 on Glocktalk.com. It is one of the better sources for 911 information I have seen.

I've got several...Kimber, Colt and Ruger. I've shot lots of them, from highly customized Colts to some of those named above...Ed Brown, STI, Dan Wesson, Wilson, Nighthawk. All nice guns but I think some of them make you pay a premium for the brand name. Buy what makes you happy. Or, since dealing with the wife, buy a nice Colt and then gradually upgrade it. It's an easier sell. Sort of like eating an elephant...one bite at a time.
