Once I tried a Les Baer, my Wilsons were traded the next week for Baers. They have a different feel in hand, with good accuracy and solid reliability.

Here is a good 1911 forum.

Quality mags are critical for reliability. Stick to Wilson and Tripp mags.

I like my Para-Ordnance P-14. They have some nice packages straight from the factory and easy to get upgraded.

I've heard from a few people the les bear have super tight tolerances so tight it takes a hammer to take them apart. Any truth to that?

eek2

No, a hammer is not needed to disassemble a Baer 1911.

The older guns when he was in Illinois locked up extremely hard when new and required a solid grip on the slide with one hand and rap on the grip with the other to move the slide out of battery.

The current builds are still tight, but do not lock up as tight as the older Illinois guns did new out of the box.

He said and still does to put 500 rounds through a new build before even thinking about disassembling it.

Putting a light film of grease like Brian Enos' Slide Glide or Lucas Red 'n Tacky #2 (available at auto parts stores) on the exterior of the barrel where it makes contact with the bushing, and the rear where the rails contact the slide helps.

If you are in the Austin area, you are welcome to shoot mine if you would like to try it.
