Hello, I have a marlin 1894 in 44mag that is made right before Remington took over the marlin company, it's made around early 2000, anyhow my friend wants to trade me his dpms ar in 308 with vortex scope for it. I am on the fence and cannot decide if I want to go threw with the trade or not, so I am looking for some feedback on what you guys think I should do or what you all do if you were in my shoes? Any advice and feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I'd say it would be a decent trade. BUT I'd keep the .44. Or sell it too ME

I would think the lr-308 with optic would be of higher value. I can't comment on which a person might prefer though.

That's a hard one. Want to use the AR? Then great trade. If either gun is going to sit in the safe, the Marlin will build value much better

Being a fan of "JM" stamped Marlin, I would find it hard to part with the Marlin. With that being said, it sounds like a fair trade. The rifle you will use the most will probably be the one to stick with or trade for. The two are very different creatures from one another.
On a second note, If its a buddy your thinking of trading with, I would shoot the DPMS and check for accuracy.

I think dollar wise it would make sense, but I would have a hard time trading that Marlin for a DPMS

Dollar for dollar it might be a fair trade but they aren't making any more "old" marlins.

I wouldn't trade the Marlin for 2 of them. Why? All that I have ever handled were HEAVY. Far too heavy for me to carry for any period of time. They're great shooters and are a reliable platform, but the weight keeps me from owning one. But I suppose that's a personal preference thing.

I'm with Creedmoor.I've thought about the AR10 platform, but when I handle one I forget about it on account of the weight. I'd never use it.

Well I traded off the marlin but went a different route, My friend traded me his ruger super blackhawk hunter with scope plus some cash... I am happy with the trade and will try to replace the marlin in the future sometime, but for now I am going to enjoy my new handgun...I thank everyone who posted and gave me their insight and opinion it was greatly appreciated....
