What velocities are you seeing from a good .270 load throwing a 130 grain bullet?
I've been researching and have seen when the round was introduced they were getting 3140 fps but then dialed it back decades later to 3060 fps where it sits currently.
Was the original load considered "hot" or what is dialed back because of the soft bullets they had in that era ?
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Don't have a chronograph so I cant tell with my loads.
I have a 26" barrel on mine, realoding data specifically from 26" barrels indicates you can get them running faster using heavier charges of slower powder.
You can push 130's in the 3100 fps range at the expense of case life. I have never felt the need to push it that hard. I did find load data indicating you could push 150's over 3000 in a 26 inch barrel.

For a common 130 grain bullet, I can get about 3120 fps as a max speed. My magnum load this weekend was running 3118 fps average in a Tikka T3 with 22" barrel and shooting really good. It was running 3080 in my 270 Win. I have loaded these with all the tricks to get top velocity, and that's all I can get and it still shoot good. If you go much hotter than that, you will have pressure signs. We also chrono'd 2 other boxes of factory ammo and they were running much slower than the 3060 advertised velocity. Winchester 130 grain bonded was 2914 fps avg, and Rem Core Lokt was running 2930 fps. Everything I have tested in a factory offering was running much slower than the advertised 3060 velocity. The increased recoil in my shoulder also confirmed the higher speeds of my magnum load!!! http://dallasreloads.com/product/270-win-magnum-load-130-sp/

Chad, have you tried Re26 in the .270 yet? Based on what I've seen in the .280 using 150 Partitions, I'd think you can make 130s scream out of the .270 Winchester.

I've got some of Chads 150 gr SST that are running right at 2950 . They shoot great and pack a good punch.

My 130 grain Sierra handloads chrono in the neighborhood of 3000 to 3020 fps out of a 22" T3 barrel without pressure signs. Plenty of punch and outstanding groups. I'm happy.

Im running 130 gr VLD's in my Win. Mod 54. 2895fps. I gould get faster but accuracy is under MOA and don't want to push an 80 year old gun too hard.

I love that round but it kicks like a mule haha

Yes, Sapper, it sure does! My hunting buddy runs the same 270 Win 130 SP with my "magnum load" in his Tikka T3, and he could definitely tell the increased recoil of that load, and said so after shooting it. It's a stout one, but a really good one.

If I was more into long range id find a different caliber though bc I wouldn't want to shoot that load all day long

My old 270 never kicks when I shoot at a deer, but kicks hard when shot at paper. For the last few years, I've used the soft kicking 260, and when I check the sights on the 270 I quietly mutter "ouch".
