I really need to do some weedeating around my feeder. Question is if I do it now, how much would it affect the deer that are already coming to my feeder? This is at my bow hunting location on the property and some of the patches of weeds are so tall that it could make some of my shots way too difficult.

I wouldn't risk a change this close to the opener. The last thing you want is a jumpy deer to release on

And you won't have to worry about botching a shot in the tall grass. I can weed-eat around my feeder and deer are there by evening waiting in the chow line.

I prefer to leave the grass for bow hunting. When they lower their head to eat the grass gives you cover to draw. Now for gun hunting, mow away.

I disked around a couple of feeders the other day and planted some plots. Didn't seem to bother them, they ate the corn that night. I think if they are used to having a little activity around from time to time you have nothing to worry about.

I do it with a shredder early as I can and did mine on Sunday. I also like to leave clumps of 2'-3' tall weeds, brush or grass so that I can put corn in it or behind it so the bucks head is behind blocking his view of me. When I am done shredding/weedeating the area I will spread a 5 gallon bucket of corn all around it. Some deer will spook from it at first. I shredded late one evening a large area of waste deep grass and weeds around a feed pen a couple of years ago. The next morning a buck was spooked walking from tall grass into short area. He turned and left for a while till more deer came in. Most deer are curious enough for it not to bother them.

Yeah I planned on leaving a few clumps here and there. Not only for cover, but to have a few spots to range for distance. I've never taken a deer with my bow, so I definitely want to have the advantage. Last thing I want is to have an arrow deflected! Guess I'll be cutting some weeds tomorrow....

I've cut grass the day before opening weekend (gun). Opening morning, Mr Nice Buck was back munching on corn.

We went and weed water last weekend... Pulled cards this weekend and there were 12 deer in the pen with an hour of us leaving. If anything else it makes it easier on them!

Leave it. It's natural. Weedeat the yard, not your pasture

It won't affect then, I spent four hours working with a chainsaw and cutting a lane and had deer that evening on the camera

I'd do it...I'm going to use the weed eater on my bow pop up tomorrow because the grass was too high when I put it up three weeks ago...I do not want to climb in the pop up when there are snakes already in there...

We mowed around the feeder last Thursday, and only mowed a strip about 10' wide at around 15 yards. No need to mow further, and only threw feed on the ground in the mowed strip. Fed the strip yesterday and will again a couple of times before next Saturday, and again on opening morning.
They will be used to not looking in the tall grass, and will be right at the comfortable range.

Well I did it and had deer on it that same evening and every day following! It was a huge relief seeing them on camera and knowing I don't have any tall weeds interfering with my shooting lanes! Thanks everybody.

Get them now because when love sets in you might never see them there.
