SpecialEd309 and I are helping out texashunter900 (Mike) up in Grayson County near Denison. He had previously posted on having had an accident that caused him significant discomfort. http://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/6446229/Season_over_already#Post6446229His upper body may have suffered greatly, but nothing was wrong with his legs and he and his son took us on a fairly energetic tour of the property into some unique areas. Prior to yesterday, I have never been in a situation where the ragweed stalks block out the sun! However, as it was still daytime, Mike said that is where the hogs like to hang out and bed down. Sure enough, we came across a big sow and a bunch of piglets. Little did I know that the rifle Jon was packing (looked small enough) was a BOOMING 300 Win Mag. I think both Ed and I were a little surprised then Jon fired the opening shot...

Hah! That last frame with you holding the piglet — it looks like a rabbit based on size. Way to go!
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

Yeah, I have already gotten 1 PM questioning the weight estimate, suggesting that I have inflated the size. We taped the sow to get her weight, but that won't work on the piglet (too small). I will admit to guessing on the piglet. I figured I was within plus or minus 2 lbs on it and that was close enough.

Well, when you consider a good set on a woman can weigh about 20#, and that sow has 4 sets of them, that's adding some additional weight

Those are some small piglets! Hope you had ear protection when he fired the 300WM. Mine has a brake and it's even louder.

Good to see that Mike was able to get you guys to hunt the place while he mends - that was awful generous, both ways!
Nice pigs

My wife gave me some eye antihistamine (who knew?) and that seem to really help my eye issue. I don't think Quick Clot could have helped Ed's or Jon's noses.

Is that Ragweed a year round problem or does it go dormant?
Is there a use for it, if not I'm thinking controlled burn....
I'm not a rancher or farmer so speaking out of ignorance here but hoping you guys can overcome the reactions cause I'm looking forward to lots of hog videos

I'm not a rancher or farmer so speaking out of ignorance here but hoping you guys can overcome the reactions cause I'm looking forward to lots of hog videos Ragweed is an 'Annual' so yes....it eventually dies off. Ragweed season (Texas) is typically from mid August until around the first part of November...but I've seen last longer depending upon the weather. Unless you're an herbalist (or an allergy specialist)...there really isn't any use for it. Once it gets above waist high...it is a favorite spot for hogs to bed. We have a place on our property where it grows over 8' tall if I don't bush-hog it down. Good job on those hogs....gentlemen!
Spartans ask not...how many, but where!
